Mesquite Virgin Valley, 49-6 winner against Layton, Utah, Christian Friday, has moved into the top spot in the Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School Class 3-A football ratings.

The Bulldogs, the 2006 Class 3-A state champion, had their regular-season opener Aug. 24 against Enterprise, Utah, canceled because of a schedule conflict.

Ranked second is Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, 2-0 after its 28-27 conquest of Northern 3-A power Spring Creek, which is No. 4 this week.

Reno McQueen retained its league in Class 4-A, while defending state champion Yerington Rite of Passage is No. 1 in 2-A.

Las Vegas Mountain View Christian, because of its 16-0 conquest of previously No. 2-ranked Tonopah, is ranked No. 1 in Class A.

Pahranagat Valley Alamo, which had its 25-game undefeated streak ended 42-40 by Avalon High School of Santa Catalina, Calif., dropped to No. 2, the first time in the three years of the ratings the Panthers, 1-1, have not been No. 1.

Tonopah fell to No. 4, behind Carlin, but that issue will be resolved today when the Muckers entertain the Railroaders in an interdivisional game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Other key games today include No. 4 Reed at former top 10 team Reno; Galena at unranked Reno Hug; Bishop Manogue at Reno North Valleys; Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, No. 7 in 4-A, at St. George, Utah, Dixie; Faith Lutheran at Fernley, and Virgin Valley at Hurricane. Alamo is at home against Fredonia, Ariz., tonight.

Pahrump Valley, 0-2, is at Chino, Calif., Don Lugo; Beatty, 0-2, travels to Lund, and Round Mountain, 0-2, hosts Eureka in today's games.
