The Amanda Faye Brown Melanoma Education Foundation, Nevada Chapter, raised $16,690 from the benefit concert held Aug. 27 at the Pahrump Nugget Event Center. These funds will be used to educate Nevada teachers and students toward melanoma and skin cancer awareness.

The show started with the headliner group "Sha Na Na" performing a variety of hits from "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay" to "In the Still of the Night."

Locals as well as people from Las Vegas and California packed the center for the show, they sang along with the high-energy group, enjoying and playing right along with the hokey pokey and the hand jive. Several were pulled on stage and performed with the group.

Jeff Stacey, a local performer, kept the energy flowing with his performance after Sha Na Na. Starting with "Mustang Sally" and ending with a special dedication to Sha Na Na saxophonist "Downtown Michael Brown" of the beautifully performed "You Raise Me Up," previously cut by Josh Groban.

Stacey's rendition, brought tears to Brown's eyes, as this song was played at his wife Amanda's funeral and holds a special place in his heart.

MarE -- Mary Hernandez -- brought in some rhythm and blues with her set, which included "Turn the Beat Around" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody". She closed the evening with a dedication to Brown of "Wind Beneath My Wings."

Marie Wujek, publisher of the PVT, which sponsored the event, issued special thanks to Sha Na Na, Jeff Stacey and MarE for "rocking our world."

A show like this takes a huge amount of community involvement and dedication to the cause. Heartfelt thanks also go to Lori Doller, Tina Beraldo, Tony Curto and "Bingo" Jeff Simmons from the Nugget. These four worked tirelessly to bring this all together.

Thanks and extreme gratitude is also extended to the Pahrump community. Business and private donors along with everyone that purchased tickets made the launch of Amanda's Message a success and gave Pahrump a night to remember for a long time.
