This program enables the elderly to stay in their homes by assisting with daily maintenance such ash shopping, medical appointments, etc. RSVP reimburses volunteers twenty-four cents per mile up to $20 per month and carries worker's compensation and excess auto liability on all volunteers. Additionally, volunteers receive training, annual seminar education and appreciation award dinners. To volunteer or get more information, call Jan Lindsay at 751-5282. Family to Family September calendar The September class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Emery, is as follows: Sept. 5--Parenting class canceled for today. Sept. 10--Foster Parents support group, 6 p.m. Sept. 11--Ages to Stages developmental screening 9:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.. Call for appointment. Sept. 13--Nevada Early Intervention Services explore and learn play group 11 a.m. Sept. 18--Teen Parenting Class 2 - 4 p.m. Sept. 20 --Family vehicle safety class 3:45 p.m. Registration is required and there is a fee. Sept. 21--Infant and child CPR 1 p.m. Registration is required. Sept. 24--Family vehicle safety class 1 p.m.; Spanish only. Registration is required and there is a fee. Sept. 28--Nevada Early Intervention Services explore and learn play group. 11 a.m. The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old). DAR schedules regular meeting The Pahrump Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be holding a regular monthly meeting at the Pahrump Community Library at 10 a.m. Sept. 12. Caregiver training Nathan Adelson Hospice is providing a two-day workshop to teach individuals caregiving in a home/hospice or health care/nursing home environment. The special training class is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Sept. 17 and 18. The 16 hours of training is free. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Space is limited. Reservations must be made no later than Sept. 13. The workshop will be held in the conference room at Nathan Adelson Hospice, 1480 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 900. Women's defense class The Nye County Sheriff Department in partnership with the community and Homeland Heros will present a two-day women's defense class. The class is held at the VFW Post 10054, 4651 Homestead Road, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10 and 11. This is a no nonsense self defense course taught by Nye County law enforcement officers and includes techniques on awareness of your surroundings; what to do when surprised by an attacker; what not to do or what to do when attacked; and how to neutralize an attacker.
