Letters to the Editor
Response to Bogdan letter I read the RJ article long before you forwarded it to the Pahrump Town Board members. I am appalled that you, and others like you, think that by limiting your taxes you will receive more service, better government and a better economy. The services now available to you and all others in this community, of both Pahrump and Nye County, are not free. You cannot have fire and emergency services, sheriff (police) service, town maintenance, highway/town/county road maintenance, judicial service (District Court/Justice of the Peace), county/town employee service, trash collection and any other services not mentioned, for free. The planet on which you want to reside does not exist. Limiting tax collection in a manner such as Proposition 13 in California will drag Nevada, Nye County and Pahrump into a quagmire of mediocrity. California once had the best education system in the United States and Proposition 13 has diminished that to a mediocre system at best. In answer to another of your questions -- no, there are not locks on the mail slots for town board members, there are not mail police and, there are no persons in the town office who stop mail from being distributed to town board members. I have never received a phone call from you, but if you were to call and berate me as you did at our meeting of August 28, 2007, I would not speak with you then, either. If you think that anyone elected to office is required to respond to, answer or reply to every letter, comment, note or other correspondence (oral or written), you are mistaken. Finally, if you think that this town board, and previous town boards did not consider the economic consequences of their actions, you are sadly mistaken. Any stress encountered by you is self imposed and is not, I repeat, not the fault of the current Pahrump Town Board, town manager or any Pahrump town employee. DON RUST |
