By DON McDERMOTT

Surrounded by the enemy? That could have been what Tyler Raymer was thinking when Pahrump Valley played visiting Las Vegas Faith Lutheran in a Southern Nevada Class 3-A League soccer game Tuesday. The Crusaders won 2-1.

Guaranteed berths in the Southern Nevada Class 3-A Regionals, Pahrump Valley's boys' and girls' soccer teams are winding up their regular seasons.

Both the boys and girls played at home against Mesquite Virgin Valley Thursday. The girls are tentatively scheduled to play Overton Moapa Valley Monday at the site of the regionals, the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex on the Cimarron-Memorial High School campus in Las Vegas.

The regionals are Nov. 1 and 3, with the state tournament Nov. 9 and 10 in Reno.

Tuesday, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, which won both the boys' and girls' regular-season championships, scored 2-1 victories against the Trojans. The boys' game was decided with 11 minutes left, when Jim Sullivan scored the second of his two goals.

Sergio Castro, off a pass from Tyler Raymer, had tied the score early in the second half.

The Lady Trojans lost in Las Vegas, with Emily Poertner's goal in the second half leaving them one short of the Crusaders, who got goals from Stephanie Meyer and Sydney Spoon.

In the playoffs Thursday at the Wilson complex, the likely first-round pairings in the boys' division are No. 1 Faith Lutheran vs. No. 4 Lake Mead Christian Academy at 6 p.m. and No. 2 Pahrump Valley vs. Ely White Pine at 4 p.m.; both games will be on Field 5.

In the first round of girls' play, No. 1 Faith Lutheran will play Ely White Pine at 6 p.m. on Field 6, where at 4 p.m., No. 2 Boulder City will tangle with No. 3 Pahrump Valley.

The championship games are Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. (boys) and 12:30 p.m. (girls); both will be played on Field 9.

Only the regional champions advance to the state semifinals, to be played Nov. 9 in Mackay Stadium, on the Unversity of Nevada campus. The championship games are Nov. 10 at Reno Damonte Ranch High School.
