Mesquite Virgin Valley and Overton Moapa Valley, ranked 1-2 in this week's Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School Class 3-A football ratings, clashed Thursday night, with the Southern League championship and a top seed in the playoffs at stake.

Waiting for the post-season to begin and in comfortable positions in the Northern 3-A League are No. 3- Truckee, Calif. and No. 4 Sparks; they are to battle Saturday afternoon on the Wolverines' field in California.

In Class A eight-man football, Pahranagat Valley Alamo and Tonopah remained in lock-step at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Alamo played at unranked Laughlin and Tonopah traveled to No. 6 Indian Springs Thursday.

Las Vegas Mountain View Christian completed its season at 7-2 and is ranked third. One of its wins was against Tonopah, 16-0.

Undefeated Coleville, Calif. completed a 9-0 regular-season run last week and clinched the West Division title, as well as a No. 1 seed in the Class A playoffs, which begin the weekend of Nov. 2-3.

In Class 2-A, No. 1 Pershing County Lovelock played at home against No. 4 Battle Mountain in a key Northern League game Thursday. No. 2 Las Vegas The Meadows traveled to No. 6 Needles, Calif., with the Southern championship on the line.

In Class 4-A, Las Vegas Bishop Gorman was still at No. 1 when it played at unranked Sierra Vista Thursday. At No. 2 is Reno McQueen, which played at home against No. 6 Reno Galena Thursday.

The ratings

The Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School football ratings,based on games played through Oct. 20. The final ratings will appear in the Nov. 2 edition of the Times.
