Talk about bringing home the gold -- for Dragon Cloud Dojo, it was actually more like bringing home the silver as in three grand championships, four first places, two second places and a trio of third place trophies.

Five students of the dojo participated in the BASKA (Bay Area Sport Karate Association) Nationals held in Reno on Oct. 19-20.

Top honors went to Lissette Vega, 14, who won first place in kenpo traditional forms and another first place in girls 14-year-old sparring, earning her eligibility to compete in the grand champion finals for both classes, winning both.

Anthony Vega, 10, competing for the first time in traditional weapons, won first place with a sai kata. He went on to win the grand champion trophy in the youth weapons class. He also won third place in boys 10-11-year-old intermediate sparring.

Tom Wujek Jr. won first place in traditional and kenpo forms in the 35-and-over class, and placed second in traditional weapons, 18 and over.

He qualified to compete for the grand ghampion trophy but was edged out by a mere 10th of a point.

Mathew Morgan, 12, won second place in kenpo forms and third place in traditional forms. Jessie Richardson won third place in boys 12-13-year-old sparring.
