Sr. Olympics to have national contestants
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
In an unusually short "barn burner" of a meeting, the Pahrump Town board conducted a variety of business. Pahrump seniors from all over the country are getting in shape in preparation for the Pahrump Senior Olympics, to be held Nov. 1-4 right here in town. Thirty-eight applications from as far away as Oregon and Alaska have already been submitted, according to Carolyn S. Indra, a co-chairman of the Senior Olympics board. The board helped the event to move along by approving up to $2,500 in funds promoting it and mailing out more applications. The money will come from the town's room tax fund. The Pahrump Community Pool manual was updated to reflect the recent change in price to 50 cents per day for one and all. Plans were made about possibly changing the price of the season passes to reflect the discount. The pool season runs from about Memorial Day through Labor Day. Making sure to follow the letter of the law, the board also approved amending a resolution that established the Pahrump Alliance Valley Economic Development nonprofit corporation as the town's economic development corporation. The resolution identified Town Manager Dave Richards and board Chairman Laurayne Murray as members of PAVED's board, which is not compliant with the law. As such, that part of the resolution has been deleted. PAVED is working on getting funding and plans established for the proposed Pahrump Arts and Recreation Center (otherwise known as the proposed fairgrounds project), which is slated to include two theme parks, a sports center, and expansive arenas. |
