BASKETBALL 2007-2008 Lady Trojans will play most games on road
By DON McDERMOTT
After winning 30 of 34 games and finishing second in the Nevada Class 3-A state tournament in the 2006-2007 season, the Pahrump Valley High School girls' basketball team will spend most of the time in its final season in Class 3-A on the road. Coach Bob Hopkins' team has just nine dates -- Dec. 6-7-8 (the Pahrump Valley Times Trojans Cage Classic), Dec. 21, Jan. 5, Jan. 8, Jan. 19, Jan. 22 and Feb. 1 -- on its home court, which incidentally is being replaced. The rainstorm in September undermined the court so badly the court had to be torn out. The girls open the season Nov. 29 at the River Valley (Ariz.) Invitational tournament, which runs through Dec. 1. The Times tournament is the following weekend, with 10 teams to compete, including Las Vegas Bishop Gorman JVs, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Boulder City, Lincoln County, Beatty, Tonopah, Round Mountain, Bishop (Calif.) and Las Vegas Trinity Christian. There are games at Class 4-A Las Vegas Cheyenne Dec. 10 and at home against 1-A power Pahranagat Valley Alamo Dec. 21 before the Trojans play in the prestigious Bulldogs Invitational at Centennial Dec. 27-28-29. Home games are against Hurricane, Utah, Jan. 5, as well as 3-A rivals Faith Lutheran (Jan. 8), Boulder City (Jan. 19), Overton Moapa Valley (Jan. 22) and Mesquite Virgin Valley (Feb. 1). The 3-A regionals will be held Feb. 14 and 16 at Del Sol High School in east-central Las Vegas, with the state tournament at Reno Feb. 22-23. The PV girls lost 46-33 to Spring Creek in the 2007 title game, played in the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. |
