Shoshone Old West Days The annual Shoshone Old West Days will be Nov 2-4 in the village of Shoshone. There will be historical presentations, walking tours, crafts, food, entertainment and live music. The festival opens at 4 p.m., Nov 2. The Shoshone Desert Art Show will be the weekend of Nov. 2-4 as well, and features artists from far and near who will come to participate. The Art and Craft Show is 12- 5 p.m., Nov. 2, 9-5 p.m., Nov. 3 and 9-3 p.m., Nov. 3. For more information call 751-5131 for the arts and crafts show and 760-852-4224 for Shoshone Old West Days. Annual coat drive The most requested gift from Santa is a warm coat. Drop off your new and gently used coats between Oct. 15 and Dec. 15 at Mankins Allstate Insurance, 1271 S. Hwy. 160 (across from Saddle West) or Dream Homes, 3100 S. Hwy. 160, during business hours. The coats will be donated to No to Abuse for distribution to the children and teenagers of Pahrump. Thank you Pahrump community for your support. Contemporary worship service Saved by Grace Lutheran Church is having a contemporary worship service at 11 a.m., this Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Mt. Charleston Elementary School auditorium, 1521 E. Idaho Street (off of Pahrump Valley Boulevard, south of Calvada). "Grateful" will perform and all are welcome. Call 751-5754 for more information. Thanksgiving baskets The Salvation Army is now accepting applications for the Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas toys. Marie Calandar pies for sale The Nye County Cinderella Girls are selling Marie Calandar pies for Thanksgiving. The ordering deadline is Nov. 15. Call Ashley Ditoto anytime at 751-2932. Pies can be picked up at 2 p.m., Nov. 21 in the Pahrump Nugget parking lot. PVHS Food Drive The Pahrump Valley High School clubs will participate in a canned food drive from Oct. 24-Nov. 2. Food collected will be donated to the Salvation Army for distribution to those in need. Family to Family Calendar The September class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Emery, is as follows: Oct. 26--Closed for Nevada Day. Oct. 30--Breast feeding basics, 11 a.m. Oct. 31--Parenting class canceled for today. The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old). Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Call 751-5898 (se habla español) for more information. Toys for Tots The Marine Corps League, Pahrump Detachment 1199 partners with the Marine Corps Reserve to support Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots will collect new, unwrapped toys from donation boxes at our local businesses to distribute to children in Nye County. Collection boxes will be located in nearly 40 locations including Ace Hardware, Wal-Mart, Albertson's, Smith's, CVS Pharmacy and Walgreens. The boxes will be in place starting mid-November and stay in place through mid-December. Tax deductible donations can be made to: Toys for Tots, P.O. Box 5481, Pahrump, NV 89041. October food drive Nevada Federal Credit Union is conducting a "drop and match" food drive during the month of October to benefit the Pahrump Family Resource Center. Nevada Federal will match each non-perishable food donation dropped off at the branch located at 280 S. Hwy. 160, during regular business hours. NTS workers open house Professional Case Management is having an open house in Pahrump from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Oct. 24 at the Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Gambling Hall in the private dining room of the Stockman's Steakhouse. Professional Case Management provides in-home nursing care to Nevada Test Site workers who developed an illness after working at the site and is for those workers who could benefit with in-home nursing services. Nye Democrats The Nye County Democrats Central Committee will hold a mock caucus at 7 p.m., Oct. 29 at the monthly meeting in the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B. AARP driver safety The AARP Driver Safety Program is a two day class being held from 9:15-1:15 p.m., Oct. 24 and 25. Taking the class may result in auto insurance discounts. There will be a pot luck at 7 p.m., Oct 26 at Shirley's home. There will be a contest for best mask. A pumpkin carving will be at 6 p.m., Oct. 30, at Jennifer's home. Bring your own pumpkin and imagination. Some carving tools and hot cider will be provided. There will be a discussion concerning the Thanksgiving basket making social. Charleston Elementary School will be having the annual Scholastic Book Fair from 12-2 p.m. through Nov. 1 in the school library. PVHS Parent/teacher Pahrump Valley High School will be holding parent/teacher conferences between 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, in the A-Building gymnasium. Parents can pick up their student's report card at the door. Unclaimed reports will be issued to the student on Monday, Oct. 29. Parent/teacher conferences Parent/teacher conferences and a "Drive for the Kids" fundraiser hosted by Saitta-Trudeau, will be held at J. G. Johnson Elementary School on Oct. 24. More information about these events will be sent home with the students within the next two weeks. Parent/teacher conferences Parent/teacher conferences will be held from 3-7 p.m., Oct. 25 at Rosemary Clarke Middle School in the gymnasium. No appointment is necessary. Students will be dismissed from school at 10:35 A.M. Flu shot clinic Desert View Regional Medical Center will hold a flu shot clinic from 11-3 p.m., Oct. 25 and Oct. 31 at the hospital, 360 S. Domestic violence The Interfaith Domestic Violence Taskforce and No to Abuse will hold a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m., Oct. 25 at Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 Vicki Ann Road. The vigil is to celebrate those who have survived domestic violence and remember those who have died. No to Abuse is a domestic violence agency serving Nye, Esmeralda and Lincoln counties providing shelter, advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence. For more information call No to Abuse, 751-1118. Youth drum circle Registration is now open for the youth drum circle classes for ages 12 to 18. The Positive Action/Life Skills class is required. Classes start Oct. 25. Recital concert will be at Mandalay Bay House of Blues. Guest instructors will be from Sengal and the Cirque de Soleil. Pump up Pahrump Nye Communities Coalition is introducing a new monthly event with a free family fitness challenge, Pump-Up-Pahrump, for children K-12. The first will be held from 10-noon, Saturday, Oct. 27 at Honeysuckle Park (gazebo area). Each school age participant will be evaluated according to the President's Fitness Challenge levels for their age group. The entire family can join any activities they choose. The Youth Organization and Rosemary Clark Middle School Student Council will record the results. The event will be the last Saturday of every month. There will be prizes, games (volleyball, Frisbee toss, hula hoop contests) and a good time for the entire family. There is no charge, but each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. PVHS Fundraiser The parents of the Pahrump Valley High School Cheerleaders will be holding a yard sale to raise money for uniforms specifically for the cheer leading competition this year. Family drum night Haven Selah is hosting a family drum night, 6-7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, 1680 N. Blagg Road. Bring the kids, a snack to share and any kind of drums or shakers available. Trudy St. (Hwy. 160 and Blosser Ranch Road). TOPS is a nonprofit organization and proceeds benefit local programs. Beatty Days The 2nd annual Beatty Days will be the weekend of Oct. 26-28 in Beatty. There will be skits, games for all ages, crafts, food, two parades entertainment and live music. The chili cook off is sanctioned by the ICS this year and winners will share $1400 in cash prizes. The Sun Country Cloggers will perform at 12:45 p.m., Oct. 27 on the main stage and invite the public to go enjoy the show and Beatty Days. |
