Safe Halloween alternatives

Several Pahrump organizations, clubs and businesses are offering safe alternative Halloween events for the kids. Below is a list of information compiled by the Pahrump Valley Times.

All events are slated for Oct. 31 unless otherwise specified.

First Southern Baptist Church will hold their annual Fall Festival from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the church, 741 E. Fehrs Way (corner of Fehrs Way and Highway 160).

The event is for children 2 years old to 5th grade. It is a fun safe evening of games, activities and opportunities to "win" candy.

The Pahrump Nugget Kid Ventures will be hosting events for ages 2-5 and 6-12.

The haunted house is open 12-3 p.m. for ages 2-5 and 3-6 p.m. for ages 6-12.

There will be bobbing for prizes, gift bags and the "Angel of Death" will be available for photos for $2.

Kid Ventures will open at 6-10 p.m. for normal activities.

Trinity Assembly of God Church is providing a fun and safe alternative to traditional Halloween activities.

The event will be from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 31 at the church, 750 S. Big Five Road, between 372 and Wilson.

There will be drawings and toy giveaways, games and prizes. Tickets for the drawings are $1 each or six tickets for $5.

Last year there were 3000 attendees and more are expected this year.

There is no fee for admission to the event.

The Pahrump Gunfighters will be performing western skits and reenactments at 1 p.m., Oct. 28 at "Dusty Flats" next to Charlie's Place (Our Bar), 3770 W. Bell Vista Road.

There will be a Halloween costume contest for children to age 12.

Beehive Homes of Nye County is offering a safe place for kids to trick-or-treat, dusk to 8 p.m., Oct. 31, 1821 E. Ambush Street. (Dandelion to left on Ambush across from the 4-H Center).

The Kiwanis Club will host their Halloween safe night from 4-8 p.m., Oct. 31 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

There will be game booths provided by local service groups, raffles, food and refreshments for sale and one bag of candy for each child as they leave.

The event is geared for children ages 4-10 and they must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry is free, but tickets must be purchased in order to play games.

Trunk or treat is a car decorating contest sponsored by Subway and the Unclub Boys starting at 5 p.m. in the Subway parking lot, 1520 E. Highway. 372.

The best decorated vehicles are competing for first, second or third prize.

All decorated vehicles will be welcome.

Bring unopened bags of candy for trick-or-treats.

If the children do trick-or-treat from house-to-house, Desert Valley Regional Medical Center has offered to X-ray the loot. The service will be available from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31 only.
