Volleyball team wins; soccer squads sweep

Fighting off elimination from the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League volleyball playoff race, Pahrump Valley defeated homestanding Mesquite Virgin Valley 25-22, 25-15, 15-25, 25-12 Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans are 1-5 in the league, with matches remaining against homestanding Overton Moapa Valley tonight and Boulder City, on the Eagles' court Oct. 25.

Virgin Valley is 1-5 in the league, with matches remaining against Boulder City and Moapa Valley.

Coach Amy Hart's team travels to El Cajon, Calif., today for the Granite Hills Invitational.

In soccer, the PVHS boys trounced Virgin Valley 8-0 Tuesday, with Tyler Raymer scoring four goals. Alex Fonseca, Iggy Wagner, Sergio Castro and Brian Lee adding one each for the Trojans, 8-2 and three points behind Faith Lutheran (9-0) for the league lead.

The Lady Trojans moved to 4-1-2 in the league with a 6-1 victory against Virgin Valley Tuesday.

Emily Poertner had three goals, with Taylor Raymer, Leanne Morrow and Angelica Musumeci adding one each.
