Prep football

Mesquite Virgin Valley remained No. 1 in the Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School football ratings, after extending its record to 7-1 with a 29-12 conquest of Southern Nevada Class 3-A League rival Boulder City Friday.

Second is Overton Moapa Valley, 5-2 in all games and 3-0 in the league. The Pirates' next start is at home tonight against Pahrump Valley (0-6-1).

Truckee, Calif., a long-time Class 3-A football power, is ranked No. 3, with Sparks at No. 4. Truckee will play Spring Creek, 5-3, in a pivotal 3-A game tonight.

In Class A (eight-man football), defending state champion Pahranagat Valley Alamo, 6-1, is still at the top of the ratings. Tonopah, the only Nye County team ranked in any class, is No.2, also at 6-1. The Muckers are at Beatty tonight (7).

Coleville, Calif., undefeated in eight games, is at No. 3, with Las Vegas Mountain View Christian, 6-2, in fourth.

In Class 2-A, Pershing County Lovelock, 7-0, is No. 1, with Las Vegas The Meadows, 5-2, second. Yerington, 6-1, is third, with 2006 state champion Yerington Rite of Passage, 5-3, fourth.

The 4-A top 10 is led by Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, 7-0, with Reno Galena, 7-0, second. Reno McQueen, 7-1, is third, with Palo Verde, 7-0, fourth.
