Annual coat drive

The most requested gift from Santa is a warm coat.

Drop off your new and gently used coats between Oct. 15 and Dec. 15 at Mankins Allstate Insurance, 1271 S. Hwy. 160 (across from Saddle West) or Dream Homes, 3100 S. Hwy. 160, during business hours.

The coats will be donated to No to Abuse for distribution to the children and teenagers of Pahrump.

Halloween alternative

Trinity Assembly of God Church is providing a fun and safe alternative to traditional Halloween activities.

The even will be from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 31 at the church located at 750 S. Big Five Road, between 372 and Wilson.

There will be drawings and toy giveaways, games and prizes. Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or outside WalMart, Friday, Oct. 19.

Last year there were 3000 attendees and more are expected this year.

Donations are welcome and can be mailed to the Trinity of God Church at the above address. All donations are tax deductible.

There is no fee for admission to the event.

Elks yard sale

Pahrump Elks Lodge #2796 is having a yard sale 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 at the lodge, 2220 E. Basin Avenue, past the DMV.

All proceeds from the sale go to Elks charities.

The Nye County Cinderella Girls are selling Marie Calandar pies for Thanksgiving. The ordering deadline is Nov. 15.

Domestic violence

The Interfaith Domestic Violence Taskforce and No to Abuse will hold a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m., Oct. 25 at Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 Vicki Ann Road.

The vigil is to celebrate those who have survived domestic violence and remember those who have died.

No to Abuse is a domestic violence agency serving Nye, Esmeralda and Lincoln counties providing shelter, advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence.

United Way banquet

The United Way of Pioneer Territory will present the 9th annual Cheers for Volunteers banquet at 6 p.m., Nov. 2 in the Saddle West convention center.

Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

Black tie is suggested.

Tickets are $30 per person or $240 for a table of eight.

The celebration provides an opportunity for government, social service, nonprofit groups and private companies and citizens to nominate a special person or group for the Golden Heart Community Service Award.

Ladies luncheon and program

The Pahrump "Ladies Day Out Luncheon" will be held 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Oct. 20 at the Elks Lodge, 2220 E. Basin Avenue.

A program will be presented including a fashion show by Patti's Sunflower Fashions.

Talented Jo Langley, 11, is scheduled to sing.

Guest speaker, Karen Gunderson, a former executive secretary, real estate broker and high school teacher will make a presentation of her life story.

Quickbooks training class

The Rural Nevada Development Corp. and the Nevada Small Business Development Center in partnership with Citibank will offer two classes for Quickbooks training at Great Basin Community College.

Beginners workshop is 8-noon, Thursday, Nov. 1. The intermediate workshop will be held 8-noon, Saturday, Nov. 3.

The cost for one session is $35 and the cost of both classes is $50.

Annual Craft Bazaar

The Daughters of Mary will hold the Annual Craft Bazaar and outdoor village event from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 9-10 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 781 S. Gamebird Road.
