SUMMERLIN -- Pahrump Valley's quest for a third straight Nevada Class 3-A state championship in girls' golf ended Tuesday at Palm Valley. Results will be reported in the Friday edition of the Times.

Based on what happened Monday, the Trojans chances were even-money to accomplish that feat.

Coach Julie Floyd's team, the Southern regional champion for the fourth consecutive year, shot 473 on the 5,600-yard, par 72 course that is part of the Del Webb complex.

Ashley Keller, a junior, shot 80, just one stroke behind Caitlyn Wright of Incline, to pace PVHS's drive to the lead. Mesquite Virgin Valley, which lost the regional title to the Trojans by just one stroke (477-478) at The Palms in Mesquite last Thursday, had 498, while Incline finished the first day with 533.

Battle Mountain had 539, Winnemucca Lowry 544 and Wells 567, as each fell quickly out of contention.

Amanda Bulloch, the player of the year in the Southern League, led Virgin Valley with 83. Shelby Hooper of Incline had 83.

Pahrump Valley's Courtney Salmon, a senior, had 84. Other Lady Trojan scores were 97, by Jasper Biggs; 98, by Hailey Forry; 114, by Sierra Fitzgibbons and 119 by Meghan Morales.

Other Virgin Valley scores were 89, 94, 111, 121, and 133. Incline individuals shot 109, 119, 152 and 131.

Pahrump Valley won state titles in 1997, 2002, 2005 and 2006, and would love nothing better than to move on to Class 4-A in 2008 knowing just how much it had impacted 3-A and small-school girls' golf in Nevada.

In the regionals, Keller had 82, with Courtney Salmon at 88, Jasper Biggs 97, Hailey Forry 99 and Sierra Fitzgibbons 111. Only the 120 by Meghan Morales did not count toward the team score.

Virgin Valley's Samantha Bulloch was regional medalist with 77 and her sister Amanda was third with 84. Felisha Baeza had 100, Hannah Bulloch 102 and Merlin John 115 in scoring rounds. Dru Zolman had 125 for the Bulldogs, who had defeated PVHS 468-484 in the final regular-season match Oct. 4.

Ely White Pine was a distant third in regional team scoring with 797.

In the top 10 individuals' list, Faith Lutheran's Shawn Haggerty had 86; Boulder City's Ashley Vince had 87, with teammate Margot Potter at 89. Ashley Lacher of Faith Lutheran was eighth with 96.

In the 3-A regionals at The Golf Club of Fernley, Incline had 473, Winnemucca Lowry 504, Battle Mountain 521, Wells 522, Spring Creek 531, Yerington 579 and Round Mountain 589.

Wright was the medalist at 73, with Wells' Brittney Supp at 77. Shelby Hooper, another Incline standout, had 81.

Round Mountain, a Nye County-Central Division 1-A school, had Blanca Ramirez shoot 107. Janelle Johnson had 108, Christa Andres 110 and Katie Damron 127. A fifth Lady Knight, whose name did not appear on the official finishers' list, had 137.
