BEATTY -- Tonopah, riding an eight-game winning streak, including a 6-0 run in Nevada Class A Central Division, plays Beatty, with both teams seeking to remain in a berth in the Southern regionals, to be played Nov. 2-3 at Mountain View Christian School in Las Vegas.

with a berth in the Southern regionals assured. The Hornets, who also have a doubleheader remaining against Lund Oct. 25, can go to the playoffs with at least a 2-2 split in those remaining matches.

The 1-A regionals are Nov. 2-3 at Mountain View Christian School in Las Vegas, with the top four teams in the Central and South Divisions qualifying for the quarterfinals. Victories in the first two rounds assure two teams of going to the state tournament, to be played Nov. 9-10 at Silverado High School in Las Vegas.

The regional pairings are South No. 1 seed vs. Central No. 4, South 2 vs. Central 3, South 3 vs. Central 2, and South 4 vs. Central 1.

At state, it will be North 1 vs. South 2 and North 2 vs. South 1. Owyhee, from north-central Nevada, is the defending state champion.

Pahranagat Valley Alamo is the South favorite, with Lake Mead Christian Academy and Mountain View Christian the primary threats. Owyhee is among the Northern challengers, which include Eureka, Wells, Coleville (Calif.) and Reno Sage Ridge.

Beatty had won its first four division matches, but Friday, coach Mike Duszynski's team fell twice to Round Mountain (25-23, 25-10 and 25-19, 25-20).

"We didn't have a good night, but we had so many distractions all week ...," said the veteran coach. "Our girls were involved in the Powder Puff football game, the marching band, cheerleading for the Powder Puff game, working on a float ... and volleyball practice," said Duszynski. "Those could have been contributing factors to us not playing well against Round Mountain, a team that makes very few mistakes."

The Beatty girls were coming off a 3-0 sweep of the Southern Division's Las Vegas Calvary Chapel (25-19, 28-26, 25-21).

"Those were great games ... really exciting," said Duszynski. "We were down 18-21 in that third game, but rallied to win."

Tonopah defeated Henderson International School 25-10, 25-14 and 25-15, 25-17 Friday, then traveled to Beaver Dam, Ariz., to triumph 25-7, 25-14, 25-7 in a non-division match Saturday.

In the first game Saturday, Brittany Vallarino served the first 17 points, including four aces. Against Henderson, Kristi Glover had 18 kills, with Liz Boni getting 27 assists.
