Trojan runners gear for 3-A regional meet

Pahrump Valley's cross country team takes a break this week, in preparation for the Southern Nevada Class 3-A Regional Championships, to be contested Oct. 26 at Mountain View Park in Laughlin.

The 3-A girls will run at 10:35 a.m., with the boys competing at 11:50 a.m. on a 3.1-mile course.

The state championships are Nov. 3 at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno, with the 3-A girls running at 10:45 a.m. and the boys competing at 1:10 p.m. Rancho San Rafael Park is located just north of the University of Nevada campus.

Saturday, Pahrump Valley competed in the Southern League championship race, hosted by Palo Verde High School.

McKenzie Dean of Pahrump Valley won the 3-A girls finale in 20 minutes, 21 seconds, which was the fastest time of the day for all girl runners.

Tiffany Hutton of Cimarron-Memorial (20:23.56), Kourtney Moody, Sierra Vista (20:26), and MichaelAnne Laurent of Henderson Coronado (20:29) won their respective races in Class 4-A.

For the Lady Trojans, Stephanie Andros was 16th in 26:31 and Ashlee Wolf was 17th in 26:53.

In the boys' race, David Jacobi of the Trojans was 13th in 20:02. James Lucas was 16th in 20:16, David Binderim 19th in 20:31, Connor Chenevert 30th in 22:07 and Gabe Veloz 31st in 22:09.

The PV boys were fifth with 107 points, trailing Faith Lutheran, 36; Boulder City, 60 and Moapa Valley, 97. Laughlin also competed in the meet, finishing fourth on a tie-breaker against PVHS.

The top boys' times were Nathan Williams, Centennial, 16:20 and Jacob Thornell, Bonanza, 16:27; Spring Valley (Southwest), Coronado (Southeast), Las Vegas (Northeast) and Centennial (Northwest) won boys' 4-A team titles.

At the state meet, Class 4-A runners will compete at 11:25 a.m. (girls) and 1:45 p.m. (boys).
