The Pahrump Arts Council, in cooperation with the Pahrump Museum and with funding from the Pahrump Cultural Arts Fund, will present the annual Chautauqua at 6 p.m., Oct. 19 and 20, at the Pahrump Valley Winery amphitheater.

"WWII: War Was Hell" is set in the 1940s and will be brought to life by history scholars Doug Mishler, Ph.D., as Ernie Pyle, World War II correspondent and Doris Dwyer, Ph.D., as Margaret Bourke-White, World War II photographer.

Chautauqua will afford the audience an opportunity to experience the real person behind the famous names in history. The scholars research the characters and are thoroughly grounded in their time and place in history.

After the presentation, the audience is invited to participate by asking questions of the scholars, both in character and as themselves.

The opening event is the presentation of colors by the Pahrump Valley High School Honor Guard and the Dancin' Step Follies will perform a tribute to service personnel.

The evening is dedicated to the late Col. Bill Burns who resided in Pahrump and supported the veterans for many years.

"There are so many retired military men and women in this area," said Gloria Huff, Chautauqua coordinator. "We wish to acknowledge their service and honor their sacrifices for our country."

The theme and music will be the 1940s. The audience is encouraged to dress from the 1940s era and wearing of military uniforms is welcome.

The program will be free. Seating is limited so bring a lawn chair.
