The LDS Pahrump Homeschoolers are hosting a "Super Science Share" 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Family to Family Connection.

Annual coat drive

The most requested gift from Santa, is a warm coat.

Drop off your new and gently used coats between Oct. 15 and Dec. 15 at Mankins Allstate Insurance, 1271 S. Hwy. 160 (across from Saddle West) or Dream Homes, 3100 S. Hwy. 160, during business hours.

The coats will be donated to No to Abuse for distribution to the children and teenagers of Pahrump.

Halloween alternative

Trinity Assembly of God Church is providing a fun and safe alternative to traditional Halloween activities.

The even will be from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 31 at the church located at 750 S. Big Five Road, between 372 and Wilson.

There will be drawings and toy giveaways, games and prizes. Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or outside WalMart, Friday, Oct. 19.

Last year there were 3000 attendees and more are expected this year.

Donations are welcome and can be mailed to the Trinity of God Church at the above address. All donations are tax deductible.

There is no fee for admission to the event.

Social dance class

A social dance class is forming. The first meeting is 6:30 p.m., Oct. 18 at the Artesia Community Center on Fox Avenue.

This will be a beginning class focusing on lead and follow techniques so people can have more fun when they go out to dance.

Dances will be determined by popularity, however a selection of waltz, rhumba, cha-cha, swing and Argentine Tango will be offered.

Elks yard sale

Pahrump Elks Lodge #2796 is having a yard sale 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 at the lodge, 2220 E. Basin Avenue, past the DMV.

All proceeds from the sale go to Elks charities.

Marine Corps sale/barbecue

The Marine Corps League, Pahrump detachment 1199 is having their annual rummage sale and barbecue 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Oct. 20, 200 Cindy Drive.

The Marine Corps League supports active duty service members, veterans and the community.

In association with the Marine Corps Reserve and the Toys for Tots program, unopened toys will be acepted at the barbecue.

The Salvation Army is now accepting applications for the Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas toys.

The Nye County Cinderella Girls are selling Marie Calandar pies for Thanksgiving. The ordering deadline is Nov. 15.

DAV mobile service

So many veterans feel confused about the benefits and services earned. There is much to know and so many changes from one year to the next.

The DAV Mobile Service Office will be available from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Oct. 19 at the DAV chapter home, VFW Post #10054, 4651 S. Homestead Road, to help veterans and their families with counseling and claim filing assistance.

The service is free to veterans and their families.

Chautauqua on WWII

PAC, the Pahrump Valley Museum, and the Nevada Humanities will present "Chautauqua-WWII: War was Hell" at 6 p.m., Oct. 19 and 20 at the Pahrump Valley Winery amphitheater.

Scholars Doug Mischler and Doris Dwyer portray war correspondents, Ernie Pyle and Margaret Bourke-White.

PVHS ROTC will present the colors and Dancin'Step Follies will perform a tribute to service people.

The evening is dedicated to Col. (ret) Bill Burns and all military personnel of Pahrump.

Background music will be from the '40s so dress the style of the times if you can.
