FOOTBALL, AD Hopkins, Goodell to replace Hug in key PVHS postsPVT
Brian Hug has been removed from his positions as athletics director and head football coach at Pahrump Valley High School, Principal Kent Roberts said Wednesday. Roy Goodell, an assistant coach, will finish the season as head coach and Bob Hopkins will be the athletics director for the remainder of the year. Roberts said the school will post to accept applications for both positions at the end of the academic year. The principal added that Hug would be offered a teaching position at the school but did not specify what class. Hug was placed on administrative leave with pay last month after a public complaint was filed against him following a football game the Trojans played on Sept. 14 against Spring Creek. The Trojans lost that game 55-0. In 15 games as coach, the Trojans were 3-11 under Hug's direction. They are 0-1-1 with Goodell on the job, with Pahrump Valley's next start at home today (7 p.m.) against Southern Nevada Class 3-A League rival Las Vegas Faith Lutheran. It is the Trojans' Homecoming. Hopkins is the head coach for the PVHS girls' basketball team, as well as the boys' golf team. He also serves as an assistant coach in girls' golf. Now, however, Roberts said the school's focus was on the future. "We're moving forward and the focus is on the football team to win games and see improvement week to week," Roberts said. Roberts also announced that Andy Schneider will be the head track coach, replacing Jason Odegard, who is now an administrator in North Dakota. |
