Never too late for thank you

We have been living in Pahrump for the last 14 years, and we want to say thank you to all the nice people who stopped to give us a hand when we had trouble with our car on Pahrump Valley Blvd. on Sept. 10.

It is nice to know we can count on so many helpful people here in Pahrump.

Thanks a million to all of you.

Attack needs strong response

On the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 24 my fourth grade son was assaulted with a deadly weapon by a fellow female student. I am disgusted that this type of crime could even happen but I'm even more concerned that it occurred at the elementary level.

What this female assailant did was horrendous and unacceptable and I am pushing for Expulsion from Nye County School and Transportation. This female assailant took a box cutter to school, threatened my son with this weapon, followed through with her threat by attempting to cut him not once but twice (she damaged his lunch bag in the process when he used it to shield his face), and then ultimately took the weapon to school again the next day.

I can only imagine what she would have attempted to do had I not notified the transportation office and the school and had the weapon not been confiscated.

I cannot understand what would possess a child at that age to be so homicidal and for no reason other than being a bully.

My son did not do anything but engage in a conversation with another student who sat in the same seat with this girl. She had been bullying my son by calling him names and using foul language and persuading others to do the same. My son has never had problems in school or anywhere else with conduct or behavior and I am devastated that he had to endure such a cruel and brutal attack.

I hope that this female student faces time in juvenile custody, receives a lengthy probation, has to pay restitution, take anger management and or counseling, and ultimately be expelled from Nye County Schools.

I am writing this letter because I want other parents to know what has happened and that they should be aware that violence has no age limit.

I cannot begin to explain in words just how thankful I am to the Lord that he was watching over my son that day and kept him from being injured or killed. I hope that the School District and Juvenile Court will not succumb to the same old excuses of low self esteem, no self confidence, or underprivileged childhood and look at this child for who she really is, a criminal.

If we don't start making these children stand on their own two feet and be held accountable for their actions there is no telling what kinds of crimes they will commit in the future. I hope that Nye County makes an example out of this girl and takes a step forward towards keeping our kids safe.

As far as I'm concerned this girl attempted to kill my child and I am not going to stand idly by and watch the system favor the criminal.

As far as I'm concerned, if there is a first offense there will more than likely be a second offense. If we don't punish this criminal accordingly then we will be preparing her for a future of violence and we've all seen what these types of children are capable of when they get their hands on more violent and dangerous weapons like guns.

I know that this isn't the first circumstance in which children have been violently attacked in our schools and in our communities, lets not let sit idly by and wait for our schools and communities to suffer a brutal school shooting or another bus hi-jacking.

Great hospital

A couple of weeks ago my husband had an emergency. We thought he would have to go to Las Vegas, however our insurance covered the local hospital in Pahrump.

I would just like to thank the doctors and staff for the wonderful care he received while there.

They were professionals of course, but the kindness and concern was great. Even the housekeepers who came to empty the trash were very friendly.

I wanted everyone to know it's a great hospital.

Thanks to the hospital

Last week I had surgery on my foot here in Pahrump (Desert View Regional Medical Center).

I would like everyone to know how wonderful my time spent there was. I was greeted at the front desk by Norma who is a lovely lady and took all my fears away.

The next person I encountered was Debra, my nurse, who was with me all through my surgery and I could not have asked for better care and concern. She was an absolute doll.

Mike was my anesthesiologist and he was wonderful, what a nice man he is.

When it was time to go home, Lily took me to my car. She was as wonderful as everyone else had been to me, gentle and sweet.

The cleanliness of the hospital was...on a scale of one to ten...a ten plus.

Thank you to the entire staff and doctors for taking such good care of me.

Returning the American dream

To quote Mr. Richard V. Felde, Sr., "Five years ago a young new senator from the State of Illinois, named Barack Obama, demonstrated his insight and courage when he "voted against" the Iraq War."

Mr. Felde, Sr., I have news for you. Barack Obama only became a senator in January 2005; therefore, there was no way he voted against any war five years ago. What he did do five years ago on Oct. 2, 2002, was to give a "speech" at an anti-war rally in Chicago.

To quote the Boston Globe, "Soon after that speech, Congress--with the assenting votes of Senator Hillary Clinton of New York and former senator John Edwards of North Carolina--authorized President Bush to go to war."

Now, to quote Olson Online, "Is Barack Obama really the anti-war candidate?" "Senator Obama supported Joe Lieberman over the clearly anti-war Ned Lamont both with a personal endorsement and with money from his "leadership" PAC. That same PAC, the Hopefund, donated $10,000 to Tammy Duckworth in her primary battle with the local war opponent Christine Cigelas.

"Since taking office, Obama has become far more measured in his position. After Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha called for withdrawal from Iraq last fall, Obama rejected such a move in a speech before the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations.

In 2007, Senator Obama voted against a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq...and he went on to say I believe that U.S. forces are still a part of the solution in Iraq."

We the people of the U.S. are tired of Liberal Socialists who say they "voted for something before they voted against something" running this country. We are tired of being politically correct.

We are tired of the so called "war on drugs." We are tired of illegals breaking the law and nothing is being done about it. We are tired of our military fighting a war with their hands tied behind their backs.

We are tired of politicians running the war; it's time to let the Generals run the wars and the politicians to listen to the people.

We are tired of all the crap that is destroying this great nation.

The only way I see this country surviving is to elect a true conservative, someone like Tom Tancredo

The way to go

I had the privilege and the utmost in comfort last Friday, being driven to the Pahrump Fall Festival in a brand new senior citizen van.

A most courteous driver took us directly to the Festival entrance and of course, I had no worries trying to find a parking space or being too late for a show (since there was a pick up every half hour).

Thank you Jim and crew for organizing such a great free service.

Be responsible pet owners

I would like to direct this letter to those wonderful people who dumped their two dogs a couple of weeks ago.

I could have driven by the momma pit bull who was standing in the road, but gosh, I have a heart and it stopped me from leaving her there. I didn't even see her puppy that was on the other side of the road, until after I got the momma pit into my car.

So here I am, with a wonderful friendly momma pit bull and what I assume is one of her earlier puppies. She is pretty saggy which leads me to believe you've bred her a few times before.

I came home, after driving around for two hours with these two dogs in my car, looking for someone who could possibly be looking for them. Of course you were no were to be found.

As I was approaching my home, I called my husband an asked him to lock up my three dogs so that I could put the two pits into my backyard while I went inside and made up "found" signs. Then I took about an hour and a half to hang up all these found signs (within 3.5 hours of finding these dogs, there were about 30 signs posted around my area). I phoned Animal Control and asked if anyone called looking for these two dogs - of course not.

I started calling pit rescues; because to be very honest, I don't need more dogs especially pit bulls. But you didn't give me a choice.

Because you decided to be an incompetent pet owner, I now have to decide how I am going to introduce a pregnant-- (yeah, thanks for helping to control the pet population too)-- pit bull who's hormones are going crazy, therefore making her aggressive towards the only one of my dogs I've tried to introduce her to so far.

Now my pit bull who has never, nor will ever have an aggressive bone in his body had to endure your pregnant female pit bull chewing on his face, until my husband could get his hands in her mouth and pry it off my dogs face.

Thanks so much for your inability to develop usage of the side of your brain that actually thinks.

Because of your unwillingness to accept the responsibility of owning a pet, I now get to spend money that I don't have on aborting your pit bull's litter. After the pit is spayed, I then get to retry to introduce her to my dogs. Thank you so much for placing more stress on me that I do not necessarily need at this point in my life. And of course if she doesn't adapt and her aggression still holds on, then you have given me the opportunity to feel the quilt and despair of having to kill what use to be your pit bull.

If you haven't figured it out by now Mr. or Mrs. Just Dumpyourdogs, we do not want your stray dogs or cats or pigs or whatever you throw out with the morning trash.

If you can't figure out how to care for a pet, please do all of us a favor and do not get any more living, breathing dependents in your life.

And please, don't breed any offspring that will have the same mentality.

MR. AND MRS. RUBEN SOTO
