For those of you who wonder why government public works projects seem to take so long to actually get started, let alone be completed, the answer is that prior to ground getting broken or sledgehammers getting swung, a lot of preliminary engineering work (figuring out specifications, itemizing what needs to be done, preparing a bid package, etc.) has to be done first.

The gasps were audible throughout the room when Curt and Pamela Moen told the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission Wednesday their proposed child care and pre-school facility at 2800 S. Sagebrush Ave. might house up to 150 children.

Town seeks charges against Phoenix Inn
The Beatty Town Advisory Board Wednesday voted to ask the county to pursue misdemeanor charges against Tal Leverett, owner of the Phoenix Inn, for nonpayment of room taxes and to investigate what action might be taken against the business' license.

For Yucca, size doesn't matter
The 90-day comment period on a supplemental environmental impact statement, or EIS, to allow more storage of nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain is expected to begin today.

School enrollment almost flat
