SPECIAL TO THE PVT

LAS VEGAS -- On a blustery night at Faith Lutheran, the Moapa Valley Pirates wanted to make the Crusaders their second homecoming victim of the year and did with a 42-0 victory, the Web site NevPrep.com reported.

It was also Moapa's second shutout of the season.

The Pirates limited the Crusaders to 128 yards of offense while gaining 410 of their own.

Moapa Valley opened the scoring early with a touchdown pass from quarterback Max Jenkins to Shiloh Sandoval.

After the Crusaders failed on a fourth down conversion attempt, tailback Brad Weiss's touchdown run gave the Pirates a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Crusaders drove into Pirate territory in the second quarter but the drive ended when the Pirates' Andrew Anderson recovered a Faith Lutheran fumble.

Weiss capped the ensuing drive with the second of his four touchdowns on his way to 196 yards rushing. Logan Waite would add another score to give Moapa a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Pirates, now 2-0 in the Southern 3-A and tied with defending Nevada 3-A champion Mesquite Virgin Valley, also got a solid game from Jenkins, who completed seven of 13 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions.

The Crusaders, now 0-2 in the division, play at Pahrump Valley Friday. It is the Trojans' Homecoming.
