With the fewest entries in several years, the Pahrump Fall Festival's Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association was no less entertaining in its three go-arounds in McCullough Arena last weekend.

Cold, windy weather marred the Friday and Saturday night performances, and it was sunny and warm Sunday afternoon, when the rodeo wrapped up its annual appearance in Pahrump.

Because the rodeo marked the beginning of the 2008 points season and was held a week after the 2007 campaign ended, competitors could afford to miss a rodeo or two, here or there. They have plenty of time to qualify for 2008 titles.

Only 123 entries were recorded, which meant the total fees were just $8,750, about $6,000 less than it has been over the last several years. A PRCA spokesperson said Sunday that the Festival rodeo should be held earlier next fall to allow the competitors to get a full complement of points for the year.

The total payout Sunday was $29,256.25, or about $7,000 less than the average over the past five years.

In the final standings, the results were:

Tyson Thompson, Merrill, Ore., bareback riding (aboard Rooser BT), 81 points, $1,178;

Bud Munris, Hansel Valley, Utah, 80 points, $883.50; Moe Heaton, Paradise, Utah, 79, $441.75; Kaycee Field, Elk Ridge, Utah, 79, $441.75.

Anthony Bello, Oakley, Utah, saddle bronc riding (Devil's Brew), 81 points, $1,112.92;

Jake Larson, Garland, Utah, 79, $843.12; Matt Marvel, Winnemucca, 78, $607.05; Darrell Sagers, Erda, Utah, 76, $320.38; Elliott French, Hollister, Calif., 76, $320.38; Nick Laduke, Livermore, Calif., 75, $168.62.

Ted Bert, Modesto, Calif., bull riding (Rough Out BT), 87 points; $1,082.04.

Chad Cole, Salem, Utah, 84, $827.44; Michael Serr, Taylorsville, Utah, 81, $604.67; Brody Hamblin, Roy, Utah, 73, $413.72; Brady Scott Williams, Snelling, Calif., 65, $254.59.

Wes Lockard, steer wrestling, 8.0 seconds, $943.58;

Troy Dial, 0:14.6, $780.90; Tyler Thompson, 0:19.5, $618.21. Pat Doyle and Dennis Watkins, team roping, 0:05.8 seconds, $1,143.32 each;

Kris Goodman-Jada Corkhill, 0:06.0, $946.20 each; George Isman-Randy Stanley, 0:06.7, $749.08 each; Jake Rodriguez-Gary Ford, 0:07.1, $551.95 each; Tad Thomas-Cody Drake, 0:11.2, $354.82 each; Chad Hoff-Nate Cooper, 0:11.3, $197.13 each.

Nellie Williams, barrel racing, 0:17.21 seconds, $846.80;

Rachel Myllymaki, 0:17.23, $736.35; Katy Varian, 0:17.65, $625.89; Christina Richman, 0:17.70, $515.44; Stacy Dial, 0:17.81, $404.99; Vicki Salmonson, 0:17.84, $294.54; Tammy Lowe, 0:17.90, $184.08; Ashley Garcias, 0:17.92, $73.63.

NOTES -- Jeff (Slim) Garner, one of the more entertaining rodeo clowns to appear at a Pahrump event, kept the crowds laughing throughout the go-around breaks. The "airplane" bit and his efforts to "barbecue" a rubber chicken were priceless ... Unlike in past years, parking did not seem to be a problem, nor did traffic reach the road-rage level.
