Camacho takes two awards at short film festival

Pahrump's own Rodney Camacho won two top prizes during the recently held 2nd annual High Desert Shorts International Film Festival.

The videographer, who works for Pahrump Channel 41, was cited in the music video category for the film "Toxic Fashion."

Camacho was also honored for a work titled "Sitter" in the people's choice (horror) category.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas, produced a number of the prize-winners, who were listed as follows:

Comedy -- "Lactose Intolerant," by Justin Laforge and Dave Christenson, UNLV.

Horror -- "Reiko," by Eddie Uehara, UNLV.

Drama -- "Perspective," by Andy Carney, UNLV.

Sci-Fi -- "The Fridge," by Michael Reilly and Thomas Mahoney, UNLV.

Animation -- "Glitch," by Peter Ricq, Canada.

Documentary -- "South Winnemucca," by Marlene Austin, Las Vegas. Each winner recieved $100 in cash from Saitta-Trudeau Chrysler Jeep Dodge, a signed, limited-edition print of the official festival poster, and a Lulu Award for 2007.

Halloween alternative

Trinity Assembly of God Church is providing a fun and safe alternative to traditional Halloween activities.

The even will be from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 31 at the church located at 750 S. Big Five Road, between 372 and Wilson.

There will be drawings and toy giveaways, games and prizes. Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or outside WalMart Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13, and Friday, Oct. 19.

Last year there were 3000 attendees and more are expected this year.

Donations are welcome and can be mailed to the Trinity of God Church at the above address. All donations are tax deductable.

There is no fee for admission to the event.

October food drive

Nevada Federal Credit Union is conducting a "drop and match" food drive during the month of October to benefit the Pahrump Family Resource Center.

Nevada Federal will match each non-perishable food donation dropped off at the branch located at 280 S. Hwy. 160, during regular business hours.

Quickbooks training class

The Rural Nevada Development Corp. and the Nevada Small Business Development Center in partnership with Citibank will offer two classes for Quickbooks training at Great Basin Community College.

Beginners workshop is 8 a.m.-noon Thursday, Nov. 1. The intermediate workshop will be held 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 3.

The cost for one session is $35 and the cost of both classes is $50.

AKC Agility Trials

The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Southern Nevada is holding AKC Agility Trials begining at 8 a.m. each day Oct. 26-28 at Petrack Park.
