Sign-making party

Obama campaign volunteers will hold a volunteer meeting and Fall Festival sign-making party at 6 p.m., Oct. 5 at the home of Pam Wilson-Johnson, 771 Thousandaire Blvd.

The event is free and open to the public.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Festival handicap parking

This year, handicap parking is available in the front of the Bob Ruud Center.

The parking area will be strictly enforced.

Vehicles must have a handicap placard or license plate designation to use this area. All other vehicles will be ticketed.

Nye County Democrats

The Nye County Democratic Club meets the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

DAR meeting

The Pahrump Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a regular monthly meeting at 10 a.m., Oct. 10 at the Pahrump Community Library.

Regent Jerri Smythe will present a program on "What is the DAR."

Anyone interested in DAR programs and objectives is welcome.

Laureate Omicron

The Laureate Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will hold a sorority meeting at 1 p.m., Oct. 8 in the home of Julia Snow who will also present the cultural program.

Genealogical Society

The society will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Church of Latter Day Saints at West Street and Wilson Street.

The guest speaker is Mary Ward on the subject of researching at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She has recently returned from a week of research at the library.

Mary is a long-time researcher and teacher of genealogical subjects.

The talk will begin at 7 p.m.

Elks Soccer Shoot

Because of the rain last Friday, the Elks Soccer Shoot was postponed.

The new date is 10 a.m., Oct. 13.

The competition is open to boys and girls 13 years old and under. The age cutoff date is Aug. 1.

"Shadow Your Future"

The Soroptimists International Pahrump Valley "Shadow Your Future Program" is a two-part program for junior and senior high school girls. It will give the young women a chance to spend the day shadowing a woman in a career field the girl might want to pursue.

The first day of the event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. The girls will meet at CC's Beauty Zone and learn the basics of career success. The seminar includes resume writing, grooming and makeup, table manners and the simple but powerful handshake.

The second day starts with a light continental breakfast at the Charleston Peak RV Park clubhouse from 7 to 8 a.m. The girls will be introduced to mentors and head out for a day of "shadowing."

Applications are available at the high school and at CC's Beauty Zone, 1231 E. Basin Avenue, Suite 3.

Space is limited to 20 participants.

Youth drum circle

Registration is now open for the youth drum circle classes for ages 12 to 18.

The Positive Action/Life Skills class is required.

Classes start Oct. 25.

Recital concert will be at Mandalay Bay House of Blues.

Guest instructors will be from Sengal and the Cirque de Soleil.
