Fall Festival reminders

Once again it's a festival weekend in Pahrump and the weekend promises to be a busy one.

According to the Fall Festival Web site, "as many as 50,000 plus people are expected to attend the Pahrump Fall Festival this year" so the best bet is to park at Saddle West or the Pahrump Nugget and ride one of the continuously running shuttles to Petrack Park and back. The shuttle service will run from noon to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The parking lot in front of the Bob Ruud Center is reserved for handicap vehicles only. Cars not displaying either a designated license plate or a placard can expect a ticket and the area is going to be patrolled.

Besides the carnival and the arts and crafts displays, the vendors and the rodeo, there are a few events that warrant a reminder.

...The Darryl Worley concert is scheduled for Thursday at 8 p.m. at the McCullough Arena, and one of Pahrump's own, Kelcy Hyde, is the opening act. The 13 year old is a student at PVHS and this 45-minute performance could be a stepping stone to bigger things for her. Hyde starts at 7 p.m. and hometown enthusiasm and support would be welcome.

...The Elks will serve breakfast Friday-Sunday from 7 until 11 a.m., and lunch/dinner Friday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

...The Rotary's infamous deep pit barbecue is available on Saturday only. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. providing they don't run out; and dinner is an option from 5 to 8 p.m. The proceeds will go to support the Boys and Girls Club of Pahrump.

...Grape Stomp is Saturday also at the Pahrump Valley winery. The winery sponsors timed foot stompin', grape mashin' fun, prizes and wine specials on new releases from noon until 6 p.m.

...The Fall Classic car races are at the Pahrump Valley Speedway starting at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings.

...Something new has been added to the fun this year at the PRCA Rodeo and it's especially for the kids. Mutton Bustin' is an event for kids 8 and under who want to try their hand at riding a sheep. Qualifying is easy. All the child has to do is show up when the gates open with a parent who purchases a ticket. The first 10 will ride during the time before the Rodeo actually starts, and again during an intermission. Each participant gets a T-shirt and a patch for their jacket. At the end of the evening the winner will also get a belt buckle.

This weekend is full of fun, excitement and a lot of visitors. While a celebration is first on the list, remember to use caution and drive safely.
