Beatty, after recording three straight one-sided victories in non-division football, launches its Nevada Class A Central season at Indian Springs Friday.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. for the contest between the Hornets, 3-2, and the Thunderbirds, 4-2 in all games, 1-0 in the division after their 63-20 rout of Round Mountain last week.

"This should be an interesting game," said Gus Sullivan, Beatty's second-year football coach. "I don't know how strong Round Mountain is, but Indian Springs has to be a good team with (Derek) Oliver in its lineup." Oliver is an all-purpose back who has helped the T-Birds average 37 points per game.

Beatty defeated Lund 52-0 at home Friday, with the defense coming up with two touchdowns, one on a fumble recovery by David Tom and one on an interception by Jose Mendoza.

"The defense really stepped up for us," said Sullivan. "We had a couple fumble recoveries and two interceptions."

Offensively, one of the big plays was a touchdown pass thrown by backup quarterback Jacob Sumpter to halfback Joe Serrano.

"We had five players out last weekend, two who were hurt and three who were ineligible," said Sullivan. "This week, we lost Trevor Hughes, a junior who is moving with his family back to Carlin. He is a good defensive player."

"This is our last road game of the season," said Sullivan. "We'll close at home with games against Tonopah, Round Mountain and Spring Mountain."

Elsewhere in the Central, Tonopah began its quest for a fourth consecutive division title with a 42-0 rout of Spring Mountain. The Muckers, 1-0 division, 4-1 in all games, is at home against Round Mountain, 0-1, 0-5, Friday; kickoff is at 7 p.m.

In other 1-A games this weekend, the South Division title chase has a key matchup Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas, when defending state champion Pahranagat Valley Alamo plays homestanding Mountain View Christian. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
