Letters to the Editor
New breed of justice The Town of Pahrump is getting a lot of bad publicity all because of a child molester. The criminal who did this terrible act and then video taped it is obviously a sick person. Most pedophiles are repeat offenders and are potentially dangerous when put back into society, and statistics will show this to be a proven fact. Our law makers and Supreme Court justices seem to think that people who commit these crimes can be rehabilitated and can safely be put back into our society, but time and time again they are proven wrong. Pedophiles are receiving the wrong medical treatment while they are in prison. Instead of talking to a psychologist to find out why they commit these horrendous acts, they should be with a doctor who will castrate them, and this will ensure they never have the desire to commit these criminal acts again. Our legal system lacks justice and common sense because we have too many criminals who have no fear of the punishments handed down by the courts. I wonder how many criminals would be repeat offenders if the citizens who were victimized handed out the punishment. Criminals who commit capital crimes are dangerous and cost the taxpayers a lot of money, and even though I am an animal lover, if I get attacked by a mad dog, I don't try to catch it and rehabilitate it. I kill it. LOUIS J. DECANIO Nice to be appreciated Thank you Pahrump Nugget and Golden Gaming for thanking us. I was helping with the setup of our team member appreciation party and while there, I heard Jeremy Jensen [general manager of the Pahrump Nugget] say how great the casino looks with all the new additions and remodeling of the casino inside and out. He went on to say he recognized how much work went into it and that all of his employees had made great sacrifices to help. He said he wanted to show his appreciation by giving us a "team" party. He was proud that all of his employees had stepped up to the needs of the company without any complaints. Jeremy Jensen went on to say he was going to give away some great prizes (one of which was a full sized pool table) and be sure to have lots of great food for us to enjoy because we've all worked so hard and deserve it. Hearing him speak about his team members this way made me feel really proud to be working for a man who cares that much. Most casinos would say "hey, they got paid, that's enough," but not Jeremy. He delivered a great party. If you ever have the pleasure of visiting the Pahrump Nugget, you'll see smiles and laughter in all the team members' faces. When Golden Gaming bought the Pahrump Nugget, a lot of us were nervous, wondering if Jeremy Jensen and his great staff would still be with us. Well, they are. So on behalf of all your team members, thank you Golden Gaming Vice-President, Steve Arkana, for making a good thing better. And thank you Jeremy Jensen and your loyal staff. And for anyone who wants a nice getaway, or would like to enjoy good company of a great staff, come to the Pahrump Nugget and see what you've been missing. JERRY SCHLOSSER AND PAHRUMP NUGGET EMPLOYEES Dedicated service I recently had an emergency oxygen level in my body. My doctor wanted me to go to the hospital immediately and I resisted, saying I'd rather go to Vegas. I relented and went here, in Pahrump. I stayed only six days and they have me back to fully functioning and that is necessary because I live alone and am 82 years old. I have only the biggest regard for the doctors and staff at the hospital. I have never seen a more dedicated, fully functioning staff. Perhaps if we all used our local hospital, we could entice them to start doing surgery out here. My best to them all. RUTH E. WEIDERHEIMER Trummell doesn't know the difference On the front page of your Sept. 7 paper, your headlines were: "Panel: Brothels and sex trafficking." It is apparent that no one on the panel knows the difference between pimps, illegal brothels and legal brothels. What is more amazing to me, is that Candice Trummell, having been a commissioner and on the brothel board, doesn't know the difference between pimps, illegal brothels and legal brothels. I would like to point out two things that makes it impossible for legal brothels to aid sex trafficking. Why? Because the laws governing legal brothels require that when a woman decides she wants to work as a prostitute in a legal brothel, she must do two things: First: She must go to the health department and be checked for AIDS and all other sexual diseases. Second: When she gets a health certificate, she must go to the sheriff's office, who takes her fingerprints, Social Security number and runs a check on her. If she has no record, then the sheriff gives her a card so she can work as a legal prostitute in a legal brothel. The law requires that the brothel be able to show a law enforcement officer a health certificate and a sheriff card for every woman in the brothel at all times. Therefore, the laws governing legal brothels makes it impossible for legal brothels to aid in sex trafficking. MACK MOORE, FORMER OWNER/OPERATOR OF ANGEL'S LADIES BROTHEL IN BEATTY Heartfelt thanks On Aug. 20 we were involved in a serious motorcycle accident. As a result, we ended up in the hospital with some bad injuries. Well, we were fortunate enough to have some very dear friends step in to help us out by putting on a benefit poker run. The run was a big success; not only did our friends help but so did a lot of kind people in our community, as well as several businesses. We would like to thank each and every one of you for being so kind in helping us in our time of need. Believe me, it has helped out tremendously. It is so nice to know there is so many kind and caring people in Pahrump. Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you all. ALASKA EDDIE & JANICE Grateful mother To all of my son Eddie's and Janice's friends -- the ones I met and the ones I didn't -- I want to say thank you. Thank you for being there for them.
