DAV dinner

The Disabled American Veterans will hold an Italian style dinner from 5-7 p.m., Oct. 5 at the VFW hall on Homestead Road.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy lasagna, salad and garlic bread for $6 per person.

Toastmasters

The Pahrump Valley Toastmasters meets the first and third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m.

The meetings are held at Laduke Team Realty, 1271 S. Hwy. 160, Suite C.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit organization for learning how to speak comfortably in public.

DAR meeting

The Pahrump Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a regular monthly meeting at 10 a.m., Oct. 10 at the Pahrump Community Library.

Regent Jerri Smythe will present a program on "What is the DAR."

The Amanda Faye Brown Nevada Chapter of Melanoma Education Foundation is currently recruiting volunteers to get the word out on melanoma and skin cancer awareness.

Melanoma Fighters Club

"Mandy's Melanoma Fighters Club" seeks 2 to 3 preteen and teenagers from each middle and high school in Pahrump to promote melanoma and skin cancer awareness in their school.

Oct. 5--First aid safety class, 1 p.m.

Oct. 6--Foster parents support group, 6 p.m.

Oct. 9--Ages to Stages developmental screening, 9:30-12:30 p.m. Call for an appointment.

Oct. 12--Nevada Early Intervention Services explore and learn play group, 11 a.m.

Oct. 16--Teen parenting class in collaboration with WIC, 2 p.m.

Oct. 17--H/S Science fair, 11 a.m.

Oct. 18--Family vehicle safety class, 3:45 p.m. Registration and fee required.

Oct. 22--Family vehicle safety class, Spanish only, 1 p.m. Registration and fee required.

Oct. 23--Halloween safety tips/activity, 2 p.m.

Oct. 26--Closed for Nevada Day.

Oct. 30--Breast feeding basics, 11 a.m.

Oct. 31--Parenting class canceled for today.

The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old).

Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday.

Resource Lending Library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"Shadow Your Future"

The Soroptimists International Pahrump Valley "Shadow Your Future Program" is a two-part program for junior and senior high school girls. It will give the young women a chance to spend the day shadowing a woman in a career field the girl might want to pursue.

The first day of the event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. The girls will meet at CC's Beauty Zone and learn the basics of career success. The seminar includes resume writing, grooming and makeup, table manners and the simple but powerful handshake.

The second day starts with a light continental breakfast at the Charleston Peak RV Park clubhouse from 7 to 8 a.m. The girls will be introduced to mentors and head out for a day of "shadowing."

Applications are available at the high school and at CC's Beauty Zone, 1231 E. Basin Avenue, Suite 3.

Space is limited to 20 participants.

Pahrump Open Schooling shows will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 13 and Nov. 3 at McCullough Arena (corner of Highway 160 and Basin Road).
