Community pool: cheaper for all
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Taking a dip in the community pool will now be a little cheaper for residents with the Pahrump Town Board's having lowered the user fees to a flat rate of 50 cents for all users. Previously, taking a swim cost $2.25 for adults, $1.75 for children ages 6 through 12, and 75 cents for children 5 and under. The decision to lower the cost and institute a flat fee was a result of the record attendance enjoyed at the pool this past Labor Day weekend. Historically, the long weekend is actually the slowest day for the pool, but this year the 50 cent special resulted in a multitude of visitors. The first day of the weekend saw 136 patrons, the following day 216, and on Labor Day itself a whopping 341 Pahrumpians dove in to take a swim. Last year's pool season averaged only 57 patrons a day, with the highest one-day attendance June 28, when 157 people dove in to the pool. Although the pool has only a limited revenue source, which is based on pool district taxes and the user fees, the decreased cost is expected to increase attendance enough to offset the lost revenue and reduce the financial impact of lowering the fees. |
