PAC Christmas Concert scheduled for Nugget
By CHARLENE DEAN
The Pahrump Arts Council and the Pahrump Community Choir will present the annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m., Dec. 13 in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center. The event is free and open to the public. The choir only performs two concerts a year and this is the opportunity for folks to get into the spirit of the season and enjoy many of the familiar standards. The concert is structured to be pleasurable for everyone. Loretta Lindell of the Pahrump Arts Council said, "We want this to be a concert for everyone no matter their religious affiliation." The program includes Christmas pieces like Handel's famous Messiah, and favorite tunes like Marshmellow World, Sleigh Ride and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. The choral director, Andy Barnum said, "This is the Pahrump Arts Council gift of music to the community. We'll perform some seasonal music...including a few surprises." The Men's Quartet will perform as a unit and Doug Farr, the music director at the Pahrump Valley High School and an accomplished percussionists will perform as well. "The public can come out and enjoy the music and stay for the special refreshments afterward," Barnum added. After more than 30 years as a musician and teacher, and most recently, the music teacher at J.G. Johnson Elementary School, Barnum retired this fall. He will however, continue to function as the choral director for PAC. The next concert is scheduled for the spring of 2008. Membership in the choir is open to anyone, high school age and over, who enjoys singing. Rehearsals are held from 7 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday evening in the Rosemary Clarke Middle School music room. The Pahrump Arts Council sponsors and presents a number of arts and cultural events throughout the year and is funded in part, by the Town of Pahrump room taxes, the Nevada Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, Nevada Humanities, memberships and private donations.
