Home from the band

I just got home from the high school where we were entertained by the prestigious Air Force Band and the Singing Sergeants.

What a terrific show. Besides being great entertainment, it also roused the feeling of patriotism.

My disappointments were that there wasn't enough time to give them the proper advertising to fill the 450 seats and the obvious lack of representation by the town board and the county commissioners. I did see a sheriff's car out front, but didn't see the sheriff.

It's really sad that when the people connected with the performing arts are looking for a place to put on their shows, Pahrump can't even fill the high school gym for something as great as the Air Force Band.

I remember a couple of years ago when the Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps came to our Fall Festival and put on a similar show and how great it was, but the war in Iraq canceled any further appearances. What a shame. I don't expect to see the Air Force return any time soon, and that is another shame.

My personal thanks to the people responsible for bringing the band to Pahrump, and it's too bad that the gym wasn't filled to capacity.

Food for thought

A friend sent this letter to me and I present it with a tongue-in-cheek smile.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that our government can track a single cow born in Canada almost three years ago right to the stall where she sleeps in the state of Washington?

And they tracked her calves to their stalls.

But they are unable to locate over 12 million illegal aliens wandering around our country.

Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

Well, that gave me food for thought. Is and are our government tax-supported workers doing their jobs? No. So I came up with the following.

A solution for the above that no one has come up with to date. This would not break up families and eliminate most of the inhumanities, etc., that the left loons are complaining about that we are doing to all those people who are breaking our rule of law and committing an illegality every day they are here illegally.

Therefore I propose: Give every illegal alien three cows, five acres of BLM tillable land, one small house trailer, a well, a digestible composter, methane storage tank and a cow enclosure. And a citizenship after five- plus years of maintaining and operating the gift without further help after the first season and with citizenship, a deed to the land, etc.

Here is what would happen. The aliens would raise each cow and enter their excrement into the composter. They would feed the cows from the crops they would raise on the land and grow for themselves.

Results: the composter, with the cow excrement, would generate methane for heating their home, running their cars, cooking, refrigerators and sale to gas companies for our cars, etc., as well as fertilizer (saleable) for use on their land and ours.

Generating income and products that would pay for their costs (schools, medical etc).

They would have milk for their use, calves for sale, beef and vegetables for themselves. They would pay taxes to contribute to our way of life, etc. This is a self-supporting way of life and support.

To day no one has a workable, usable, beneficial solution to the so called politically incorrect or correct problem as stated by the politicians for their own gain.

There you have it. Taking BLM land off the roles means fewer taxes needed to run the BLM. More income taxes collected.

Less waste in tax benefits to non-supporting, of our government, aliens.

Less dependence on offshore oil to run our cars, electric generating plants.

Less dependence on chemicals to grow our food crops. More money for schools, etc.

The preceding is a win-win solution. No politician has come up with on yet. Rhetoric yes. More bureaucracy yes. A win-win solution for all, no.

Capitalism, not socialism, freedom and democracy, not government control are the solution that I present to you. Simple, huh?

I am an American.

One sick puppy

Our ten-month-old puppy, Maggie, who was adopted from Animal House here in Pahrump, became deathly ill after digging up something she should not have.

We immediately called the owner of Animal House, John Shewalter, for his expert advice and help. We did not know what was wrong with Maggie, only that it seemed she was going to die. She was one sick puppy.

John immediately told us to get her to the veterinarian for tests, which we did. It turned out she needed an antibiotic because she had been exposed to a huge amount of bacteria. For the next week, John went out of his way to call the house and check on Maggie. He told us he was available anytime we needed him.

Thank you John for all of your help, but more importantly, for being who you are.

Other Pahrump business owners should follow your lead and be the best that they can be for their customers.

This was not about John doing business as usual; he truly cares about his animals and their moms and dads.

You're the best John.
