Beatty will open the 2007-2008 high school basketball season Monday, with a girls and boys doubleheader at Calvary Chapel in Las Vegas.

The girls, with Aimee Senior back as coach, play at 6 p.m., with the boys' game starting at 7:30 p.m. A JV boys contest begins at 4:30 p.m. Brian Hayes has returned as the boys' coach.

Next Tuesday, the boys are at home against Amargosa Valley Horizon Academy, with a JV-varsity twin bill starting at 5 p.m.

Beatty's girls will compete in a tournament at Lone Pine, Calif., Nov. 30-Dec. 1. The boys are at home Nov. 30 against Owens Valley, Calif., with the game involving the JV team.

Both Beatty varsity teams are in the sixth annual Pahrump Valley Times Trojans Cage Classic Dec. 6-7-8.

The tournament will be played in the PVHS gym, the Ninth Grade Academy or at Rosemary Clarke Middle School, pending the completion of the reconstruction of the high school gym. It was severely damaged by water, during a heavy rain storm in September.

Beatty's boys will play:

Horizon Academy, 12:30 p.m., Dec. 7;

Round Mountain, 8 p.m., Dec. 7;

The girls' opponents:

Round Mountain, 2 p.m., Dec. 6;

Bishop, Calif., 2 p.m., Dec. 7;

Boulder City, 5 p.m., Dec. 7.

Bracket games for single-elimination tournaments involving all 16 teams will be played Dec. 8, starting at 8 a.m.

Entered in the girls' tournament are Beatty, along with defending champion Pahrump Valley, Bishop (Calif.), the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Junior Varsity, Boulder City, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Lincoln County, Round Mountain, Las Vegas Trinity Christian and Tonopah.

In the boys' tournament with the Hornets are Bishop Gorman JVs, Henderson International School, Horizon Academy, Round Mountain and the host Trojans.

Beatty will open Nevada Class A Central Division action Jan. 4 at home against Tonopah. Other division dates are Jan. 5, Jan. 11, Jan. 18, Jan. 19, Jan. 25, Feb. 1, Feb. 2, Feb. 8, and Feb. 9 for girls. Boys' division games are Jan. 4, 5, 11, 18, 19, 22, 25, Feb. 1, 2, 8, 9.

The Southern Class A regionals are Feb. 12-13-15-16, with the state tournament Feb. 22-23 at Reno.

Beatty will not have a wrestling team this year, because of two factors. Reportedly, there was not enough interest among the students -- and there was no coach assigned.
