Fishing

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Anglers could have this small reservoir all to themselves and find trout fishing in the fair to good category. Nights have been cold. In addition to rainbow and tiger trout, fishermen could reel in some German browns. For browns throw something that looks meaty like a Woolly Bugger or crayfish pattern. For the others try rainbow PowerBait, worms or a combination of worms and mini marshmallows.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

The water and fishing pressure are both low, but anglers are catching some rainbow trout.

LAKE MEAD

Still fishing with anchovies has been productive for striper anglers in the Hemenway area. Some top-water action has taken place from Vegas Wash to 33-Hole. Live shad can be found in the Vegas Bay arm and also have been taking fish. For catfish try stink baits, chicken livers or night crawlers.

LAKE MOHAVE

Fishing has been fair to good for anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove. Anglers trolling baits in 15-60 feet of water have had most success though still fishing and casting lures have also taken fish. One angler reeled in a pair of 11-pound fish while trolling with anchovies in four feet of water, and another reportedly caught a 28-inch striper while casting a "feathery lure" from his boat.

Rainbow trout fishing remains spotty at Willow Beach. Most of the catch has been coming from near the Willow Beach Hatchery outflow, but fish are also being caught in other areas of the beach. Though pan-size planters dominate the catch, one lucky angler caught a 22.5-inch rainbow that weighted in at just under five pounds. The fish took a night crawler pumped up with air. Other bait options include PowerBait, Super Dupers and Jake's Lures. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Unseasonably warm temperatures have created excellent trout fishing conditions. Anglers have been catching planter-size rainbows in Haymeadow, Cold springs and Adams McGill reservoirs. Mosquitoes are still hatching, especially in the warmer parts of the day, so don't forget your bug spray. Duck hunters are still waiting on migrating birds, but there are still a significant number of resident birds on the area. There also are about 200 geese using the management area.

URBAN PONDS

Anglers have been taking advantage of the trout fishing that is now available at the valley's four urban ponds. Rainbow PowerBait fished on a size 16 or smaller hook, small worms, spinners and lures should entice the fish. Bluegill have been active and taking small flies.
