The night the lights went out in Pahrump
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Lightening may not strike twice, but power outages can. Two back-to-back outages left many Pahrumpians in the dark briefly on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Over 400 Valley Electric Association members found themselves pray to forces of nature when a bird flew into some electrical equipment and caused the lights to go out at Honeysuckle Street and Calvada Boulevard for approximately 45 minutes at 7:30 p.m. About two hours later, at 9:15 p.m., residents near Barney and Basin were without power for just over an hour and a half when a mechanical failure caused an overhead power line to burn and fall to the ground. "Two unrelated outages back to back are uncommon but when nature, weather and unforeseen circumstances are all involved, anything can happen and VEA crews are always ready to respond," a written statement from the utility company said. |
