Pahrump Valley's basketball teams, its main gym closed for major repairs, began preparations for the 2007-2008 season that will resemble a road show for a while.

Coaches Lonnie Shereck (boys) and Bob Hopkins (girls) greeted more than 30 players each in the Ninth Grade Academy gym Saturday morning. The high school gym floor, damaged by water during a storm in September, is being replaced, as are sections of the sheetrock wall. When that project will be completed is a matter of concern to the coaches.

Shereck's boys are to open at home Nov. 27 against Lake Mead Christian Academy, Nevada's Class A state runnerup last season.

The Trojans go to Lake Mead for an invitational tournament Nov. 29-30-Dec. 1.

The girls are to be on the road the first weekend, playing in a tournament at River Valley, Ariz.

On Dec. 6-7-8, the Trojan teams are to host the Pahrump Valley Times Trojans Cage Classic, originally scheduled to be played in the high school and academy gyms.

Tentatively, the games scheduled for the Academy will be switched to the gym at Rosemary Clarke Middle School, while the high school gym contests will move to the Academy.

With 16 teams entered in that tournament, a total of 38 games will be played to determine champions in boys and girls divisions. Six boys and 10 girls teams are entered in the sixth annual Times tournament.
