Scouts sponsor en masse food drivePVT
Saturday, Nov. 17, members of local Scouting Units will sponsor their annual "Scouting for Food" drive. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Venture Scouts and their leaders will hand out bags from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to patrons entering Smith's and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to shoppers at Albertson's. Scouts will also be visiting as many residences as possible this week, leaving bags on doors and fences. The bags will be picked up on Saturday between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. All food items collected at the stores and from homes will be sorted, boxed and delivered to the Salvation Army to help fill Thanksgiving baskets. Any non-perishables like canned fruits and vegetables, hot and cold cereals, soups, pastas and baby food can be put in the bags. Residents may also take the bags to Albertson's, Smith's, Pahrump Valley Auto Plaza or Wal-Mart. Collection boxes have been set up at these locations for anyone who would like to make a donation prior to Saturday's event. Coolers will be available on Saturday for anyone who wants to donate perishables. Captain Torres of the Salvation Army said her wish list for Saturday's food drive consists of turkeys, pies, whipped topping, yams, potatoes and any other Thanksgiving dinner or dessert items. "The public's help would be greatly appreciated," she said. Cub Scout Pack 748 will be collecting non-perishables at their fundraiser from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Skate Zone. A donation will get a $2 discount of the admission price for this event. Any monetary donations will be used to purchase any items still needed at the end of the day.
