PACTG focus meeting

The Pahrump Arts Council Theater Guild will hold the annual focus group meeting , 7-8 p.m., Nov. 14 at the WestCare Prevention office, 2280 E. Calvada Blvd.

The meeting is to discuss the selection of shows for the next fiscal year.

Public input is welcome, however only PAC members in good standing may vote.

ARES spotter class

The local ARES/RACES group invites interested individuals to attend a Skywarn Spotter Class at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 14 at 1510 Siri Lane.

The National Weather Service relies on trained volunteers to supplement Doppler radar data to issue severe weather warnings.

The classes are free and open to anyone with an interest in weather or public service.

Library calendar

The Pahrump Community Library is located at 701 East Street, and is hosting the following events in November:

Nov. 1-20--Thanksgiving food drive. Bring non-perishable food items to the library.

Nov. 15--Adult craft workshop, 1:30 p.m.

Nov. 17--Pahrump Anime Club meeting, 12-4 p.m.

Nov. 19--Trustees meeting, 10 a.m.

Nov. 20--Favorite Author Book Club meeting, 1:30 p.m.

Computer classes for beginning level users are Monday-Wednesday. Sign-up at the library only.

The winter reading program continues Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Dec. 18.

Tuesday classes are Little pups (ages 2-3), 9:15-9:45 a.m.; Red pups (ages 4-5), 10-10:45 a.m.; Big red (ages 5-12 and Kindergarten), 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Wednesday is craft class (5th grade and up), 3:15-4:15 p.m.

Movie Day is canceled this month due to the holiday weekend.

The library will be closed Nov. 12, 22 and 23.

These ladies made it possible to bring the Senior Olympics to Pahrump and provided a service we would not have experienced had they not coordinated this effort.

The Pahrump Springs chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold the monthly meeting at 10 a.m., Nov. 14 at the Pahrump Community Library.

The September class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Emery, is as follows:

Nov. 15 -- Family vehicle safety class, 3:45 p.m., registration and fee.

Nov. 16 -- closed.

Nov. 19 -- foster parent support group, 6 p.m.

Nov. 20 -- teen parenting class in collaboration with WIC, 2 p.m.

Nov. 22 -- closed for Thanksgiving.

Nov. 23 -- closed family day.

Nov. 27 -- infant and child CPR, 1 p.m., registration required.

The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old).

Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday.

Resource Lending Library is open from 9- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Walk-in Flu Shot Clinics

The Bureau of Community Health will have flu-shot clinics on the following dates for November.

Nov. 13 -- 1-4 p.m.

Nov. 14 -- 8:30-4 p.m.

Nov. 15 -- 8:30-3 p.m.

Nov. 19 -- 8:30-4 p.m.

Nov. 20 -- 10-4 p.m.

Nov. 21 -- 8:30-11 a.m.

Flu shots are offered to adults only. Children will be seen by scheduled appointment.

Medicare or Medicaid cards are accepted. Senior Dimensions is accepted only with Medicare. All others will incur a $20 cost for the shot.

Beta Sigma Phi Thanksgiving

The members of Beta Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, will hold a Thanksgiving social at 6 p.m., Nov. 14 at Louise's home.

There will be a short meeting followed by dinner at 6:30.

SNAPS is looking for registered feeders.

They will assist with spay/neutering, vaccinations, trapping and food when available at no charge.

Thanksgiving dinner

The American Legion, Post 22 and auxiliary is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner from 5-7 p.m., Nov. 16 at the VFW hall on Homestead Road.

Dinner will be free to veterans and $6 for non-veterans.

Library book signing

There will be a book signing by local author Vivian Lee for her book, "The Picking Field" 10-1 p.m., Nov. 17 at the Pahrump Community Library.

The book is the story of LeAnna and her brothers' journey through an early childhood of sex, violence and starvation.

Christmas Craft Fair

There will be a Christmas craft fair 9-3 p.m., Nov. 17 at Desert Greens, 350 W. Wilson Road (between Blagg and Linda).

Free "Ty" beanie ducks for the kids while supplies last and raffles every half hour.

Everything is handcrafted. There will be jewelry sets, woodcarvings, clocks, talking sticks, baskets, boxes, cards and picture frames.

Eastern Star Bazaar

The annual Eastern Star Bazaar will be 9-3 p.m., Nov. 17 at the Masonic Temple, 281 Gemini Drive (off Blagg north of Basin).

In addition to the large assortment of crafts, Christmas gifts and baked goods, there will be a patio shop with white elephant items; and as always an assortment of sugar free sweets, sandwiches and coffee.

The drawing for the queen-sized beige quilt will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday and tickets are available from members or by calling, 727-8589 or 727-1050.

Literacy night

Manse Elementary will hold a family literacy night from 6-7 p.m., Nov. 15 in the multi-purpose room.

The topic is writing and how to write featuring the kindergarten and 5th grade classes as performers.

Thanksgiving baskets

The Salvation Army is now accepting applications for the Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas toys.

Thanksgiving food basket application deadline is Nov. 15, and for Christmas, application deadline is Dec. 15.

Pick up applications 10-3 p.m., Monday-Friday, at the Salvation Army Social Services Office, 240 S. Dahlia St. (next to the Thrift Store).

Marie Callender pies for sale

The Nye County Cinderella Girls are selling Marie Callender pies for Thanksgiving. The ordering deadline is Nov. 15.

Pies can be picked up at 2 p.m., Nov. 21 in the Pahrump Nugget parking lot.

Powder Puff football

There will be a Powder Puff football game at 5 p.m., Nov. 16 at the Pahrump Valley High School playing field.

The cost of tickets is $3. Food concessions will be available.

Proceeds benefit the cheerleading squad, drill team and softball.

Vision Impaired meeting

The Pahrump Valley Chapter of Vision Impaired Persons will hold a monthly meeting at 1 p.m., Nov. 20 at the Pahrump Senior Center, 1370 W. Basin Road.

The meetings provide interaction and information for those with difficulty seeing or suffer from degenerative vision loss.

All interested persons are invited to attend.

OHV workshop

Off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, land managers and other stakeholders are invited to a two-day workshop on off-highway vehicle use in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area 1-5 p.m., Nov. 30 and 9-4:30 p.m., Dec. 1 at the Mountain Falls Golf Club, 5001 Fox Ave.

The workshop will assist the U.S. Forest Service and community members to work together as partners to steward the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area off-highway vehicle trails system. Horseback riders, hikers and mountain bikers are also welcome to attend. Continental breakfast, lunch and breaks will be provided.

Registration is required online by logging on to www.nohvcc.org and click on the "Forest Service OHV Designation Workshops and Database" link. Registration deadline is Nov. 23.

Toys for Tots

The Marine Corps League, Pahrump Detachment 1199 partners with the Marine Corps Reserve to support Toys for Tots.

Toys for Tots will collect new, unwrapped toys from donation boxes at our local businesses to distribute to children in Nye County.

Collection boxes will be located in nearly 40 locations including Ace Hardware, Wal-Mart, Albertson's, Smith's, CVS Pharmacy, Desert Valley Regional Medical Center and Walgreens. The boxes will be in place starting Nov. 5 and stay in place through Dec. 22.

Grief support for Holidays

Nathan Adelson Hospice invites those who grieve the loss of a loved one to the adult grief support meeting at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, 1480 E. Calvada Blvd.

The meetings in November and December will focus on the challenges of getting through the holidays and discussions of ways to cope with the season after the loss of a loved one.

Christmas Pageant

The Pahrump Arts Council Theater Guild will present "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," at 7 p.m., Nov. 16 and 17 in the Pahrump Valley High School auditorium.

The story is based on the notorious Herdman family, by Barbara Robinson and features local actors ranging from 2 to 72.

Paul Dilella of the Pahrump Valley High School Drama Department will direct.

Tickets are $7 for PAC members and students and $10 for adults.

Tickets are on sale at Ace Hardware, Pahrump Community Library, the Chamber of Commerce, the PAC office and at the door.
