Lindsey Earl is a 19-year-old on the path to making her dreams of being a country and western star come true, and Pahrump will have the opportunity to hear her when she takes to the stage as a special guest at 6:45 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10 at the Nugget.

The path bringing her here is by way of talent, desire and a boost from her title of Southwest Division Colgate Country Showdown winner. She was one of five finalists performing in Nashville in April competing for the Showdown title and $100,000.

The Colgate competition is the country music version of "American Idol" and has produced a number of stars over the years, including Garth Brooks, Sara Evans and John Michael Montgomery.

Earl didn't win, but being in the competition and performing with LeAnn Rimes on national television has brought interest from record labels and songwriters.

Earl has been dreaming of becoming a country singer since she was 8. Even at that tender age, she had a beautiful voice and her mother launched her public exposure with pageants and talent competitions. She placed first in almost every event.

She is under the management of former Pahrump residents Spence and Joy Hayden. The Haydens will accompany her to Pahrump this weekend, where she will be cutting the tracks for her latest demo at Rave Digital Studios. Michael Paul will engineer sound for the recording. She will finish recording her new CD in December.

The CD was Earl's choice. She has had music promoters ask her to change her style and provide samples of hip-hop and jazz. Earl, although appreciative, declined the offers because her passions are country, bluegrass and country blues.

Earl will perform one set during each of the Vegas shows and sing "Simple Kind of Man" accompanied by her friend Jonathan Kern on acoustic guitar, and "Cowboy Sweetheart," Yodelin' Blues," "Cryin' Time" and the song that got her so far in the Colgate Showdown, "God Fearing Women," accompanied by music tracks.
