Amargosa Valley goals
A few of the major points to the Amargosa Valley area plan include: A goal to limit land parcels to a minimum of two gross acres in the central parts of the valley. Higher density development would be allowed on the northern and southern perimeters. Development should be prohibited in flood plains and plans must show flood plains using flood insurance maps. New development near fault lines should show the location of the faults and use safeguards to protect development. Any surrendered water rights should be held by Nye County in an account for Amargosa Valley's future municipal use. Public infrastructure costs should be paid by new development. Heavy industry should be restricted to the outer perimeter of existing population centers and near transportation routes. Buffers should protect neighboring property from light industry. Amargosa Valley should work with state and federal economic development agencies to identify potential industrial and commercial land uses suitable for the township. Agricultural zoning should be maintained or implemented in areas where agricultural activities are to remain or be encouraged. Suitable areas of public land for disposal should be identified with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Many of the statements have a broad-brush approach, like a goal that recreational vehicle parks be encouraged to locate where water and sewer services are present. Future commercial uses should be encouraged around existing population centers. Future zoning should promote a mix of housing. |
