Amargosa finishes 14-5

The Amargosa Valley Sandblasters' volleyball team finished 14-5 in the 2007 middle school volleyball season.

Three eighth graders -- Ana Martinez, Ruby Velyra and Esmeraldo Velyra -- were on the team, coached by Jim Hein.

Also on the roster were Brittany White, Ester Velyra, Misty Bowlin, Benita Rodriguez, Aldo Leyba, Jessica Babbitt, Zoee Spicer, Olivia Coriseona, Jessica Kadmas, Clarissa Madrid, Nicole Zamora, Glenda Perez, Lupita Sanchez, Lili Valdovinos and Josie Hanlon.

Adult softball tourney set

The first Pahrump Valley Softball Association will sponsor a men's tournament, the Turkey Shoot, to be contested Nov. 10 at Petrack Park.

The tournament will begin at 9 a.m., with each team guaranteed four games. Prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place teams. The entry fee is $200 a team.

A Home Run Derby will be held the same day, with the entry fee $20. There will be a five-hit guarantee and prizes will be awarded for the longest homer and the most homers.

NIAA board sets meeting

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association will meet Nov. 29-30 in Las Vegas, at a site to be announced.

Tennis, anyone?

Cj Azaria wants to know if anyone in Pahrump is interested in forming a tennis organization.

"We want people of all ages, from toddlers to seniors to sign up, if they are interested in tennis," said Azaria. "There are only two courts that we know of in Pahrump (at Petrack Park), so if we show there is enough interest, more courts will be built."
