Little League playoffs resume The Pahrump Little League baseball playoffs, after taking Memorial Day weekend off, resumed Tuesday, with the next key game to be played Thursday. The winner of Tuesday's Junior Division game between the Cardinals and Rangers will play the Padres at 6 p.m. at Honeysuckle Park. The Angels and Dodgers played Tuesday in a Major Division game. The Diamondbacks defeated the Angels 11-3 and the Yankees edged the Dodgers 10-6 last Wednesday. In the Minor Division, the results were Storm 15, River Cats 0, Hooks 15, River Dogs 6; Defenders 5, Raptors 4; Red Wings 7, Muckdogs 4; River Dogs over the River Cats, and Raptors 15, Muckdogs 5. Junior golf clinic in June The Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Association's annual clinic for boys and girls 7-18 will be held June 11-12-13 at Mountain Falls. The clinic is required for all junior golfers who want to compete in PVJGA tournaments from June through May 2008. The cost is $20. Any valley youngster who cannot afford to pay junior golf dues should contact Elaine Goins, the director, at 727-6670 for scholarship information. The clinic for new golfers will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. all three days. Current PVJGA members will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday. Registration forms, listing name, age, address, parents names, contact phone number, health concerns, clubs (own or need), and PVJGA status (new, current member) can be mailed to PVJGA, 2440 S. River Plate Dr., Pahrump, 89048. Basketball skills on tap J.G. Johnson Elementary School will be the site for a Boys & Girls Club of Pahrump-sponsored youth basketball skills contest Saturday. Times were not announced for the contest that will be held in age divisions 7-9, 10-12, 13-15 and 16-18 for both boys and girls. Information on the contest are available at the Boys & Girls club, 2210 Mt. Charleston, or contact Brian Nelson, the unit director, at 537-1161. Fall sign-ups slated at PVHS All Pahrump Valley High School student-athletes must have a physical examination every year. So, the following information, provided by the PVHS athletics department, is key to any prospective Trojan athlete intending to compete in fall 2007. To participate in high school athletics, boys and girls must have: Appropriate physical examination/registration on file in the PVHS athletics department; physical examinations must be done by licensed physicians, not chiropractors; Health insurance coverage; a student may purchase coverage through the school if he or she is not already insured. Forms will not be available until July 2. Important dates to remember are: July 2, physical and registration forms will be available in the PVHS main office; summer hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Aug. 1, early registration will be held from noon to 8 p.m. in the PVHS athletics office; enter through the main front doors. Student-athletes should bring their completed physical examination and registration forms. Aug. 8, final registration will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Again, completed forms should be presented. Aug. 9, first day of football practice. Aug. 13, first day of practice for boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country, volleyball, and girls golf. Sr. Olympics in September The 2007 Nevada Senior Olympics will be held Sept. 22 through Oct. 21 in Las Vegas. Events are archery, badminton, basketball (team), basketball (skills), bocce, bowling, cycling, dance, golf, golf skills, handball, horseshoe pitching, paddle tennis, pickleball, pistol shoot, pool, power-lift/fitness, race walk, racquetball, road race, and shuffleboard. Also, roller skating, softball, swimming, table tennis, track and field, volleyball, and walk-a-thon. Basketball camp June 12 Pahrump Valley girls' basketball coach Bob Hopkins has announced that on June 12, a Global Shot Doctor Shooting Camp will be held at the high school. The times are grades 4 to 7 from 9 a.m. to noon, and grades 8-12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The camp fee is $40. The camp consists of individualized and specialized shooting instruction. Each camper will receive a written shooting evaluation and instruction on mental cybernetics necessary to become a consistently great shooter. Players will learn to improve release time, shoot more accurately, correctly hold the ball, proper practice techniques, and other skills required to be a more effective shooter. The Web site is global-shot-dr.com. Hopkins will have his annual boys and girls basketball camp June 18-22 in the high school gym. The girls' sessions are from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (grades 2-8) and the boys go from 10 a.m. to noon (grades 2-8). Cost of the camp is $30; if a boy or girl attends the Shot Doctor camp, the cost will be $20.
