Free fishing day slated June 9PVT
If you are looking for something fun that your entire family can do together in the outdoors, you may want take advantage of Free Fishing Day June 9. This is a day set aside by the State of Nevada so people of all experience levels can enjoy the sport of fishing without having to buy a fishing license in order to fish within the Silver State. As part of Free Fishing Day, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, in cooperation with Nevada State Parks, Bass Pro Shop and Wal-Mart, will be hosting a day of fishing related activities at Floyd Lamb State Park. Festivities will kick off at 9 a.m. with a class on the basics of fishing. For those who don't have their own fishing gear, NDOW will have free loaner equipment (rods and reels) available for checkout (kids first, limited quantities). Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on the lawn in front of the old hay barn. Steve White, a certified fly-casting instructor, will follow that at 10 a.m. with a fly-fishing workshop, and at 11 a.m., Bob Gaudet will provide a seminar on striped bass fishing at Lake Mead. Gaudet will also have a samples of lures used to catch stripers. Prizes will be awarded that day. |
