FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL Lady Trojans going to KingmanPVT
Pahrump Valley's fast-pitch softball team, winners of three of five games in a tournament in Utah, travel to Kingman, Ariz., this weekend to see if that trend will continue. Coach Rich Lauver's team, 3-11 in all games this spring, is in the Kingman Pepsi-Cellular One Softball Classic Friday and Saturday. The Trojans will open at 3 p.m. MDT against Nogales, Ariz. Also in the tournament are Las Vegas Rancho, Las Vegas Vo-Tech, Henderson Liberty and Needles, Calif., along with Arizona teams Chino Valley, Sahaurtia, Coconino, Oieniga, Lake Havasu, Prescott, and Windowrock. It is a double-elimination tournament, with the finals slated for 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Second-round championship bracket games are at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday. At St. George, Utah, last weekend, Pahrump Valley defeated Beehive State opponents Juab 7-0, South Sevier 9-2 and Parowan 7-0, before bowing in the bracket tournament to Hurricane 9-2 and Wasatch 12-10. Angelica Villa pitched a three-hit shutout in the opener; Tori Thomas allowed three hits in the second game, and Ashlea Barney hurled a one-hitter against Parowan. Rebecca Gamble (a homer in the first game), Taylor Raymer (2-for-2 with two runs scored), Christine Gamble and Abby Gill paced the PVHS offense. Christine Gamble slugged two homers and have five RBI in the loss to Wasatch. Pahrump Valley's JVs, which defeated Tonopah's varsity 21-15 and 26-3 in a doubleheader Monday, were 2-2 in a tournament at Mountain View Christian in Las Vegas last weekend. The wins were against the Beatty varsity (20-3) and the Mountain View varsity (12-10), with the losses to the Class 4-A Henderson Coronado JVs, 21-4 and 5-4. Pahrump Valley is in the Fred Davison Memorial tournament at Las Vegas April 2-3-4. The Trojans will play in Pool 1, along with Henderson Foothill, El Cajon, Calif., Valhalla, and San Diego Southwest. Games will be played at West Flamingo Park, just west of the Palms Hotel-Casino. Pahrump Valley will play Foothill at 9 a.m. April 2 on Field 1 and Southwest at 3 p.m. on Field 2. On April 3, the Lady Trojans will battle Valhalla at 9 a.m. on Field 1. Bracket games will begin at 3 p.m. April 3 and continue through 3 p.m. April 4 Las Vegas Faith Lutheran is in Pool 3 with Las Vegas Durango, Mar Vista and West Hills. In Pool 2 are Las Vegas Palo Verde, with Lake Balboa, Calif., Birmingham; Spring Valley, Calif., Mount Miguel, and Imperial, Calif. In Pool 4 are Cimarron-Memorial; Carson, Calif.; Spring Valley, Calif., Monte Vista, and San Diego Cathedral Catholic. In Pool 5 are the host school, Clark, along with California teams from Bakersfield North, Big Bear and Chula Vista Hilltop. Pool 6 includes Las Vegas Silverado and California teams Sylmar, San Diego Mira Mesa and Chula Vista Eastlake. In Pool 7 are Henderson Basic and California entrees Granada Hills, Santee Santana and Coachella Valley. Pool 8 has Nevada Class 4-A power Sierra Vista, as well as Banning, San Diego Point Loma and San Diego Madison. |
