Realignment on Tonopah meeting agenda

Realignment will be the primary discussion item at a meeting of parents at Tonopah High School Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association is considering moving Tonopah athletics teams back to Class 2-A, starting with the 2008-2009 school year.

Curt McElroy, the Tonopah athletics director and football coach, is opposed to the move, but he wants to meet with parents to discuss the situation facing future Mucker teams.

Parents of boys and girls in grades six through 11 are invited to attend the meeting, to be held in the school cafeteria.

McElroy indicated he will attempt to get a member of the NIAA realignment committee to attend the meeting.

The final realignment decision is expected to be announced at a NIAA meeting at Reno in June.

Laughlin and Carlin are also slated to be moved from their current 1-A status to 2-A.

Beatty and Pahrump Valley, as well as Round Mountain and Gabbs, are not expected to be adversely affected by the final realignment plan.
