Trojan Battalion stands tall during inspectionPVT Pahrump Valley High School's JROTC Trojan Battalion underwent its first annual formal inspection (AFI) Feb. 8, with many parents observing the performance of their cadets standing tall and looking sharp in their Class A uniforms. About 200 cadets took part in the AFI, which is a formal military inspection by active duty Army personnel, whose function is to verify that the battalion was in compliance with Army regulations. The inspection began with a battalion brief presented by the JROTC staff that laid out the status of the battalion. The inspectors asked questions of all concerning their respective staff elements. After the staff portion of the inspection was completed, the inspectors were escorted by the staff to the gymnasium to formally conduct an in-ranks inspection and evaluate the caliber of the drill and ceremony of the troops. The cadets were nervous but showed great pride and a determination to do well. Those in attendance representing the school system were Superintendent Rob Roberts; high school Assistant Principal Nelson and other ROTC instructors, Capt. Daniel Hernandez and Master Sgt. Joe Burke. Representing the U.S. Army Cadet Command in the inspection team were Marcus Pitchford, 11th Brigade headquarters, Fort Carson, Colo., inspection team chief; Lt. Col. Michael Judas, professor of military science, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, ROTC, chief troop inspector; and Maj. Lee Edmonds, ROTC instructor, UNLV ROTC., troop inspector. Representing the JROTC Trojan Battalion were Battalion Commander Cadet Lt. Col. Clifton Vickers, Battalion Executive Officer Cadet Maj. Heather Wade and Sgt. Maj. Ella Dunn. Also in attendance were Capt. Ashley Rollings; Cadet Capt.'s Sabina Statz, Heather Paine and Heather Gibeson; and Cadet 1st Lt.'s Tami Armstrong and Ethan Cline. Before the inspection in the gymnasium, a re-enlistment ceremony was held by Capt. Hernandez for National Guardsman Sgt. Randy Saltzman. After the inspection, the battalion held a barbecue, where the cadets unwound and enjoyed music. |
