Candiotti in bowling hall of fameBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
ST. LOUIS -- Former Major League Baseball knuckleballer Tom Candiotti excels at another sport -- bowling. The St. Louis-based International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame will induct him Wednesday as its second celebrity bowler. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis was the first, inducted last year. Candiotti will be inducted in a ceremony at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, in conjunction with a larger bowling event, the International Bowl Expo. Candiotti had a 16-year career as a MLB right-handed knuckleball pitcher. He retired in 1999 after playing with the Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Candiotti won 10 or more games in seven different seasons. During his best season in 1986, he had 16 wins and a MLB-leading 17 complete games. He ended his career with 151 wins and 1,735 strikeouts. Candiotti works as a radio analyst for the Arizona Diamondbacks and columnist for ESPN.com. Candiotti, a life-long bowler, holds a greater than 200 average in his league in Scottsdale, Ariz. |
