AT HONEYSUCKLE Legion, Liberty in two tonight

The Pahrump Valley American Legion baseball team faces some of its toughest competition of the season today, when Henderson Liberty visits for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. at Honeysuckle Park. Liberty is 7-2, with the Trojans at 3-2 in the Silver Division. While the Trojans were splitting a doubleheader at Eldorado Sunday (beating Cheyenne 14-2 and losing 10-0 to Legacy), Liberty won its last start 11-9 against Eldorado June 20. Pahrump Valley goes to Faith Lutheran Thursday to face Palo Verde at 5 p.m. and the host Crusaders at 8. Palo Verde is 4-2 after a 12-4 loss to Liberty June 19, with Faith Lutheran at 9-1 after its 8-5 conquest of Vo-Tech Sunday. In games played through Sunday, Faith Lutheran and Rancho lead the Silver Division with 9-1 records. Calvary Chapel and Henderson Foothill are at 10-3, with Sierra Vista at 8-3. Del Sol is 6-3. Shadow Ridge is 6-5, Legacy 5-4, Chaparral 5-5, Eldorado 5-7, Arbor View 4-5, and Bishop Gorman 4-7. Vo-Tech is 3-9, Cheyenne 2-9, Centennial 2-6, Desert Pines 1-10, Green Valley 1-5, Western 1-6 and Durango 0-7. The Silver Division season ends July 28. Sierra Vista leads the Gold Division at 11-1, with Spring Valley 8-5, Bishop Gorman 8-6, Coronado 7-5, and Silverado 6-1. In the Junior Division, Coronado is 10-0, Rancho 9-3, Sierra Vista 8-3, and Foothill 8-5. NOTES -- A Silver Division post-season meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. July 29 to reconcile records and standings ... The top four Silver Division teams qualify for the playoffs, to be contested July 31-Aug. 3 at Durango High School in Las Vegas ... The Silver Division Mid-States tournament is Aug. 15-19 at Beulah, N.D. ... The American Legion state playoffs for Gold Division teams will be played Aug. 4-11 at UNLV ... The World Series is Aug. 24-28 at Bartlesville, Okla. |
