FISHING

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

A quality campground, warm showers and trout fishing make this a popular destination for campers and anglers.

Daytime temperatures can be warm, but the mornings and evenings are cool. Those are the best times to cast a line for rainbow and tiger trout.

Flies and spinners are generally good for the more active angler. PowerBait or worms can be productive for more sedentary fishermen.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Anglers have been catching crappie, largemouth and rainbow trout. The crappie bite should be slowing down.

A popper, streamers, spinners and plastic baits all work well for bucket mouths. Try worms, PowerBait, spinners and flies for trout.

LAKE MEAD

Boaters have been finding some success for both smallmouth and largemouth bass in the upper reaches of the lake. The fish have been holding near structure and brush.

Anglers have been taking the fish with crankbaits, plastic worms and tube baits. Stripers are beginning to push shad to the surface and creating some opportunities for top-water fishing.

Top-water action should pick up as striper boils increase in intensity in the coming weeks. Some anglers continue to reel in small stripers on cut bait and live shad in the Overton Bay arm.

LAKE MOHAVE

Slow. That's still the word on fishing coming out of Cottonwood Cove and fishing pressure is light. Anglers have found some success for stripers, catfish and largemouth bass at locations throughout the lake.

Striper fishing should pick up as the summer progresses.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

With daytime temperatures getting warmer action for rainbow trout is tapering off and will continue to do so as the fish go deep to escape the heat.

Fish the deep pockets and shaded areas where the water remains cooler than in the open and shallow areas.

Largemouth bass should continue to provide good fishing into the summer months. Try hardware and plastic baits.

URBAN PONDS

Catfish were stocked in all five of the urban ponds this past week. Fishermen should fish on the bottom with night crawlers, chicken livers or prepared catfish bait. Using a slip rig is a good way to feel when fish take the bait.
